Primary Report

As we draw closer to the end of Semester 1, it is a good time to reflect on what we have achieved this year so far. The students are well engaged with their learning as I walk through the building on a daily basis and I am really proud of the work our teachers are doing with them.
The Year 4-6 students finished this season of their interschool sports, Netball and Tee-ball with some pleasing results. The children have represented our school proudly each week and display the school values very well when they visit or host the other schools in our network. Next Friday, June 19th, the boys Tee-ball team will play in the finals matches at Heidelberg Park from around midday. They will face Rosanna Golf Links PS, Banyule PS and Viewbank PS in their matches. Parents are welcome to spectate if they wish. We wish the boys the very best of luck and I know they will do us proud.
I had the pleasure along with Ms Tille, of taking our Prep children on a local walk to Happy Valley Childcare Centre a couple of weeks ago. We were invited by their 4 year-old kinder group to visit them and join in some activities and a delicious morning tea to mark Reconciliation Week. We are keen to form a relationship with the team at the centre and hope to encourage some more of the families to consider Macleod as their school of choice. We are planning another visit next term, and we are hopeful that the children from Happy Valley might be able to come to our school also.
The Prep-Year 3 students have continued to attend the Macleod YMCA on Fridays for their gymnastics sessions. They have really enjoyed their rotations with the coaches and their confidence in their gross motor skills has benefitted greatly. This program has become a popular tradition at Macleod over the years and I hope it will continue for many more.
The Prep-Year 2 students have been very busy this term learning about the different roles of people in our community. Here is a report from Mrs Benetti:
Exploring Our Community in Year 1/2!
Our Year 1/2 students have been diving deep into our current unit, "People in Our Community & Community Helpers," and we have had so much fun while learning! A Massive Thank You to Our Guest Speakers!
The absolute highlight of this unit has been our incredible guest speakers. We want to extend a huge thank you to the wonderful parents from within our own classroom who volunteered their time to share what they do and how they help others. The children were completely captivated as they learned from:
- Our Local Heroes & Essential Workers: Visits from the Police, Army, and RSL.
- STEM & Innovation: Fascinating insights from scientists and even a beer brewer!
- Health & Wellbeing: Active sessions with personal trainers and insights from healthcare workers and a CEO.
Hands-On Learning & Literacy
To connect these visits to our reading and writing, the students have been exploring information reports, watching educational videos, and reading books about different community roles. After every guest speaker, the children put on their journalist hats to write thoughtful reflections about what they learned.
In geography and math, we took a trip to the local shops to experience goods and services firsthand. Back in the classroom, we channelled our inner urban planners to map out our ideal communities, which culminated in a massive, whole-class road map packed with all the goods and services the children decided our community needed!
Still to Come...
The excitement isn't over yet! Over the coming weeks, we are looking forward to:
- An interactive excursion to the post office 📬
- A visit from a nurse to teach us all about healthcare 🩺
- A visit from our local firefighters 🚒
- Our highly anticipated Community Helper Dress-Up Day! 👩✈️👨🔬
Thank you again to all the families who have supported this unit and helped make our learning come alive!
Thank you also to all of our community for just being wonderful. We hope you all have a restful break over the coming holidays and get ready for another action-packed term in Term 3.
