11VM Literacy - Safe Online
Ms Emily Selar
Throughout this term in Year 11 VCE VM Literacy, we have explored Digital Literacy. Specifically, we had to assess the effectiveness of online texts and analyse the common forms of digital literacy that our age group engages with on the daily. We have also done lots of work around understanding influencers and their impact on society, plagiarism online, and online safety.
Our most recent SAT involved unpacking what it means to be safe and respectful online. For this assessment, we worked in small groups to create a presentation that we could deliver to the class. The aim was to outline the importance of being safe and respectful online and to share three safety strategies.
Being a decent person online must be guaranteed. Being and a bad or rude person in real life has consequences, and these same consequences should apply for online behaviour.
Being safe online is very important, even if you think you are safe, you might not be.
Therefore, we wanted to share some of our safety strategies with the school community. We think this is important to share, especially now as we are heading into the school holidays. We hope you can take onboard some of these strategies and have a safe and enjoyable school holiday break.
