Year 9 Science: A Term of Exploration and Discovery!
Year 9 Science has been incredibly busy this term, with students stepping out of the classroom and into the field for a series of exciting, hands-on excursions.
Mission to Mars (Astronomy & Physics)
Our Astronomy and Physics classes blasted off on a journey to Mars with a visit to the Victoria Space Science Education Centre (VSSEC). Students successfully executed a simulated Martian mission: while one team manned the control booth to monitor planet conditions and astronaut vitals, the other team suited up to collect vital rock and environmental samples on the "Martian surface." Back on Earth, both groups collaborated to analyse the retrieved materials, discovering exactly what kinds of minerals were hidden inside the space rocks.

Solving the Case (Chemistry & CSI)
Meanwhile, the Chemistry and CSI elective students put their investigative skills to the test at Quantum Victoria. Tasked with cracking a tough case, they analysed evidence left at a simulated crime scene. Students relied on their forensic knowledge to process clues using professional techniques—including fingerprinting, blood typing, and shoe imprint analysis—to successfully zero in on the prime suspect.

Compassion in Action (Plants & Animals)
The Plants and Animals class ventured to the RSPCA to see firsthand how the organisation cares for all creatures, great and small. The students toured the barn and met some of the larger residents, including chickens, sheep, and goats. They also explored the adoption centre, spending time with the dogs, cats, rabbits, and guinea pigs eagerly waiting for their forever homes.

It has been a fantastic term of practical learning, and our Year 9s represented the school beautifully across all three excursions!
