Buckley House Updates

Stella Caruso, Year 6, Buckley House

This term, Year 5 and 6 have been working on Chinese opera masks. The first step of making a Chinese opera mask is to plan the design out on paper. Students had to think about the colours, patterns, and meaning behind their mask and if their mask would be good or evil. The second was to use plaster and a mould to create the mask. The plaster was messy and had an odd texture, so it took a whole session to make and about a day to dry. After it dried, we got to paint the mask using different colours of paint and different patterns. Everyone used different colours, patterns, and designs. Finally, we used posca markers to do the last few details of our design.

This was such a fun project to do. Everyone’s mask turned out so unique and different in their own way.

This art the Year 6 students have started their buddy program with the prep students. Over the course of the past few weeks, we have done multiple activities such as a scavenger hunt. We have had lots of fun with our buddy’s, even playing with them at recess and lunch.
