Buckley House Leadership

Kimi Ye, Year 6, Buckley House
During the period from last year to this year, many students were selected for leadership roles such as Buckley House School Captain, Global Captain as well as many other specialist captains. Let’s take a dive into what these captains are doing behind the scenes. First, let’s look at the school captain, Lucas Tye-din;
‘My favourite thing about being school captain is leading assemblies and helping younger students. Leading assemblies can be challenging, but it's really exciting and fun to do it. I love helping younger students, especially new foundation students that have just come into the school and need some moral support. Also, I love working alongside with the teachers and fellow students to help achieve our goal. Overall, being a school captain is really exciting, and I love everything that you have to do with it.’
Next let’s hear from one of our global leaders, Ava
‘Being a Global Captain means having different opportunities and expressing your ideas. The fun part is that you get to organise school fundraisers and discuss things with the Global Leaders who have their own thoughts on what we could do to improve the school. It is an exciting journey to hear different voices.’
In addition, there are our specialist leaders,
Such as one of our STEM Leaders, Edward
‘Year six has been a great grade for opportunities. I am a STEM leader, and I take care of the turtle, lizard and frogs. On Tuesdays the four STEM leaders clean Bluey the lizards cage and feed all the animals. Being a STEM leader is an excellent opportunity, and I highly recommend it for you.’
Furthermore, all year sixes (with roles or not) attended multiple seminars, for example recently we attended the ‘GRIP Leadership Conference’ were we learnt about many different aspects of a leaders such as supporting others and being a voice. But most importantly, you don’t need a badge to be a leader.
Primary Captains Induction
Jeevan Srikantha and Sabreen Hira, Year 6, Plenty Primary
On the 14th of February, the 2025 house captains, global leaders and primary captains were inducted into their leadership roles. It was nerve racking at first but once the day was over, a slight wind of pride rushed by. The day started off just like any otherbut ended in success.
Though we only got our badges recently, being primary captains to us isn’t about the badge, it is about making a significant difference in the School. We believe that every single one of the individuals in the School has the ability to make a genuine impact, and we will be there to help whenever you need.
Aya Mohammed, Year 6, Buckley House
As Global Leaders, we are committed to developing a community within our school. The goal is to foster a prosperous future for other students. Here are some goals that we as global leaders will be working towards.
Firstly, we would like to focus on parent involvement; we want to foster stronger relationships between schools and families by encouraging parental involvement around the school in school activities and decision making, this enhances a support system for students.
Secondly, we would like to focus on global collaboration. We want to encourage exchange programs and collaborations between schools to promote cultural understanding and shared learning experiences.
Thirdly, we would like to improve technology and innovation. We plan to promote programs that enhance all students' access to digital technology, preparing them for a tech driven future.
By taking a collaborative, inclusive, and innovative approach to school development, we can create a nurturing environment that can not only foster academic excellence but also prepare future generations for global challenges. Together, we can ensure that our schools are not just places of learning but thriving communities that inspire, empower, and uplift every student.
