Grade 3 & 4

Dear Grade 3/4 Families,
We are off to a wonderful start to the year and could not be more proud of the settled and productive atmosphere our students have created. Just a few friendly reminders when we return in Term 2:
⭐ PE & Healthy Bodies Days – Please ensure your child wears comfortable uniform and suitable shoes for movement.
📚 Library & Home Reading – Don’t forget to pack your child’s library bag and decodable reader - if assigned one.
🧢 Hats & Drink Bottles – A wide-brimmed hat is essential for outdoor play, and a water bottle helps keep students hydrated throughout the day.
🥗 Healthy Lunchboxes – We encourage nutritious snacks and lunches to fuel growing minds. Please remember that lollies are not allowed at school.
🚫 Toys at School – To avoid distractions and lost items, we ask that toys stay at home.

3/4 D:
Some things I have enjoyed in class are silent ball at the end of the day sometimes. As well as Smiling Mind after lunch most of the time and sometimes after recess. - Hunter

We are incredibly proud of every student who made it to the semi-finals and grand finals of the speeches. It takes courage, preparation and resilience to stand up and share your voice. You should all feel very proud of your efforts and achievements!

KINECT 2 DANCE
This term, our students have been participating in the Kinect2Dance program, and it has been a fantastic experience for all involved. Throughout the sessions, students have built confidence, coordination, rhythm, and teamwork skills in a fun and supportive environment. It has been wonderful to see so many smiling faces, enthusiastic participation, and students stepping outside their comfort zones.
It was really fun we did a lot of dancing i like it - Iggy M
I loved learning new dances with Sav. My favourite song was “Thunder”, and my favourite move was “corba kai”. - Walker G
I loved Sav and how she taught us the songs with time and care. I loved doing the dance I will never say never by Justin Bieber and Make the world move. - Zara W
I really liked it mostly because I already do 4 types of dancing and I remembered all the moves and I did not have to watch or listen to Savannah on the night. - Ruby H
Kinect to dance was fun. Because we got to learn new moves. Abbi

SWIMMING
Our swimming lessons took place in Week 5 at Gurri Wanyarra Wellbeing Centre in Kangaroo Flat. Student participation was fantastic, and staff were incredibly impressed with the way our school values were demonstrated at every lesson. When we surveyed the classes at the end of the week, almost every student was able to explain how their swimming had improved in some way. Of course, Fun Friday at the end of the program was as popular as ever!
I really liked swimming because I really enjoy swimming and we got to swim a lot of types of swimming (not butterfly luckily) and the safety lesson was fun too. - Spencer M
I really liked swimming, because I got a really nice swim teacher, and a group of nice people. I also LOVED the splash park. - Lily M
I enjoyed wearing clothes and learning how to save someone, with a rope and pool noodle.

LITERACY
During our Literacy lessons this term we have studied the text ‘How to Bee' by Bren MacDibble, to develop our reading, writing, comprehension skills and develop our humanities understandings.
How to Bee is about a girl named Peony who lives in a future Australia where there are no real bees. Kids have to climb trees and pollinate flowers by hand to grow food. Peony loves her farm life, but when she is taken to the city, she must be brave and clever to find her way back home. The story is about family, courage, and never giving up.
In literacy I liked doing our narratives and just writing in general. - Spencer M

MATHS
Fluency has continued this year, allowing students to strengthen and consolidate their understanding of frequently used concepts such as place value, addition, subtraction, and key number facts like times tables.
The students have been working hard this term in Mathematics across a range of topics:
- Time
- Addition and Subtraction
- Place Value
They have learned to read 12-hour time using both digital and analogue clocks, apply a variety of mental and written strategies to solve addition and subtraction problems, and recognise, represent, and order natural numbers up to 10,000.
The thing I liked about maths was the octagon fluency game and Mr Palmers movie worksheet. - Spencer M
I love maths, it has been so fun we did an activity called dream holiday - Iggy M
I enjoy doing beat the clock in fluency and drawing the class map. - Lily M
I liked drawing my own classroom and adding all the features. I loved doing the dream holiday for my dream holiday. I wanted to go to, “Ferrari world in Dubai”.- Walker G
We have been working on our times not times tables just the 24 hour time and 12 hour time. - Ruby H
It's fun when we turn maths into games and other things. I do want to work on multiplication and division more often. Sometimes I don't understand, but I try my best. - Harry
