Grade Prep

Term One Is Almost Done & We Are So Proud Of Our Preps!
Just like that, we are almost a quarter of the way through Prep. Our students have settled in so well to school life at Epsom Primary School. We are proud of how hard they have all worked to learn our school routines and expectations. Each morning, they confidently enter their classrooms and set up their desks ready for phonics. The children are learning so much every day.
We asked the Preps, what has been your favourite experience this term? What have you loved doing? What has been challenging? Tell us how you are proud of yourself?
Everly - "My favourite thing was gym. I loved the balance beam and the bars!"
Ella - "I loved when we planted the undies in Science."
Jaxton - "I have loved playing games outside with my friends."
Nixon - "It has been challenging putting our seatbelts on in the bus."
Koven - "I am proud that I have learned sounds in phonics."
Evan - "I am proud of myself because I'm a good writer now."
Hayden & Arlo- "Gym was the best!"
Kythera & Theo - "I liked going on the bus."
Athena- "My favourite thing has been having some new teachers."
Bobby- "I have loved going up the STAR levels."
Lily & Sophie- "The swing at the gym was my favourite, and I liked the bus."
Felix - "P.E, because I'm a big sports guy"
Jackson - "Learning!"
Please enjoy a glimpse in to what the Preps have been up to, in term one!
Gym
Our Prep gymnasts had a fabulous time at Jets Gym! The children were extremely excited about attending their first ever excursion program. We think they were almost as thrilled about going on the bus, as they were about the gym program itself!
Harmony Day
The Preps love singing along to the Pevan and Sarah Harmony Song (Better Together). Some of its lyrics include:
🎶 Just like the fish, you and me
Our world is full of diversity
No one's better, no one's wrong
We come from different places but we all belong 🎶
We celebrated Harmony Day at Epsom PS by wearing orange to remind us that we are all unique, and we all belong!
Buddies
We eat lunch with our buddies every Friday, and catch up with them on a regular basis too, for some fun activities. A highlight this term was the Buddy Scavenger Hunt.
Both the prep and grade six students have told us that the buddy program is one of the best things they do at school. It is heartwarming to see the relationships that grow between our littlest and biggest students!
Prep Patterns
In Mathematics, the Preps have been learning about patterns. Here are some photos of students creating two and three colour patterns using connectable blocks.
Science
Over the past few weeks, we have been learning about living and non-living things in Science.
“Plants need food to survive” - Harrison.
“If you locked a plant in a cupboard, it would not survive without food, air or water” -Willow
We have learned that living things need air, water, sunlight and nutrients to survive and grow. The Preps were treated to a live episode of Ms S’s gardening show!
We planted a plant, some unifix blocks and then Mr Price had an idea- let’s plant some underwear! The Preps thought this was hilarious!
Over the next few weeks, we discovered which items grew and which did not, based on whether they were living or non-living. Teachers loved seeing parents observing our experiment, discussing what might happen, and tracking its progress with children before and after school.
Literacy
We have been working hard to develop our knowledge of letters, particularly on the formation and sound of each letter when writing. This term our focus sounds have been, S, A, I, M, T, N, O, P, B, C, G & H.
More Living Things (Science)
We planted some grass seeds in soil to make lawn for the houses that the Preps proudly coloured in. Over the coming weeks we will water it and observe the changes. The Preps chose a nice sunny spot for the grass to grow. Together with water, fresh air, and nutrients from the soil, we are expecting to grow some strong and healthy grass!
We hope you have a lovely Easter Break, and that Easter Bunny finds you all!
