Sustainability
Green Magpies, Green Gurruks & the Green Nest
We were blown away with the quality of Green Magpies applications this year, with over 40 students applying to join our wonderful sustainability team! From creative sustainability EPS initiatives, to dioramas, persuasive letter and eco-conscious applications, all students wrote from their green-hearts!

We would like to announce our new Maggies to join the crew:
Poppy M, Chelsea H, Piper K, Alia G, Abby M, Mila F, Summer W, Nevi L-B, Elvina D, Ava S, Steph B, Spencer D, Ivy B, Quinn M and Carolyn W.
On Friday the 27th of Feb, the whole school did an Emu Bob, to collect rubbish around the school yard. Lucky for us, most Grades noted that they only found small pieces of rubbish, such as plastic from juice box straws and paper. We have a consistent, whole-school approach to waste management at EPS and will continue striving to keep our school clean, beautiful and litter-free!
Thank you to the Ware family, Sheridan family, Miss Aburrow and Mrs Chamings for attending 'Clean Up Australia Day' on Sunday 1st of March, hosted by the Bendigo Rotary Club. We started off near the EPS staff carpark and worked our way down the creek, collecting all sorts of rubbish!
Noticeably, we saw mostly takeaway food packaging (plastic cups and lids, chip packets and soft drink cans) scattered around the bike jumps and in the creek. Fortunately, this huge effort ensured that there was no rubbish flowing down the creek when the large amount of rainfall hit Bendigo the following day.
We would love to see this become an annual tradition and hope that more families can jump on board next year!

Pulling out old veggie plants in our playground gardens, to make way for a soil rejuvenation.

In Week 9, the Green Magpies started planting our autumn/winter crops.
So far we have: broad beans, beetroot, radishes, silverbeet, cauliflower, cabbages, parnips, snow peas, and brussels sprouts.
Check out the Bendigo Council guide below to see what veggies you can plant in your gardens this time of year!

Epsom Primary School is excited to acknowledge the generous part sponsorship from Coolabah Turf, supporting the continued development of our much-loved Green Nest.
Their contribution has helped transform key areas of the Green Nest with high-quality turf, creating greener, safer and more inviting spaces for students to learn, play and connect with nature. The new turf enhances our outdoor learning environment, supporting activities linked to sustainability, wellbeing and hands-on experiences through programs such as FEAST and Green Nest Discovery.
The Coolabah Turf team, staff and students worked together at the end of Term 4 to lay the turf. Thanks to Mr I and students who installed the sprinkler system and prepared the area before the BIG Day! Despite all the hot weather over summer, it looks AMAZING!

The improved space will benefit all students, providing a comfortable area for animal care, yarning circles, outdoor lessons and quiet reflection. It also strengthens our commitment to creating a vibrant, engaging environment that supports both learning and wellbeing.
We are incredibly grateful to Coolabah Turf for their support of our school and their investment in the future of our students. Partnerships like this help bring our vision to life - growing a community that learns, connects and thrives together.

Regards,
The Green Magpies, Mrs Fullard, Miss Aburrow and Mrs Chamings.
