From the Year 2 Classroom

And just like that we are back! The kids have settled in amazingly this week, and we are straight back into learning.

We hope everyone had a safe and relaxing break, the kids have written some wonderful recounts of their time over the holidays.

Last week of Term 2- in the last week of Term 2 the children summed up the semester with making some bug insect biscuits, which reflected on their learning in Grammer- prepositions. They thoroughly enjoyed doing this of course and were able to detail where they put their lollies in which particular spot.  Not only did they enjoy eating their treats, but they were able to have these in their pyjamas! 

Term 3- This week in literacy we are focussing on the reading skill inferring. Using clues and what we already know to understand what is happening in the story.  We are following through with this skill in writing, using clues about a particular animal or object for others to guess what and where we are writing about.

In Maths we are beginning to look at multiplication through arrays and groups. The children will be exposed to lots of mathematical language included in this topic. Drawing and working out groups and arrays are directed towards how multiplication is worked out. Division will be the next area as this is connected with multiplication skills.

In Inquiry this term we will be learning lots about Yarrawonga now and Yarrawonga in the past. What is different, what is the same, what has changed and still changing and what we think should change in the future. If this arises in conversation at home, please let your child know what it was like when you were growing up or what was different in our community.

Our new Religion topic for the first half of the semester is 'Daily Life in Jesus' Time'. During this unit we will look at Jesus' life and how it is different and the same as ours, much like our inquiry unit.

Some reminders:

• Term 3 Home Readers were handed out this week. Due back each Friday.
• Please label children's jackets and jumpers- there are quite a few in lost property.
• Please make sure your child leaves fidgets at home unless they have been required or spoken about with your teacher. These are becoming quite the distraction or being lost and popped.
