From the Year 3 Classroom

We hope everyone had a wonderful and relaxing holiday break and is feeling refreshed for an exciting Term 3 ahead.
Reminder: Reconciliation Response Required
A reminder to all families to please respond to Mrs McInnes' email regarding Reconciliation. We require a response from every family, regardless of whether your child will be participating in Reconciliation or not. Your prompt reply will help us with planning and organisation. Thank you for your support in ensuring we have an accurate record for all students. Please reply YES/NO either decision. Thank you if you have already done so.
The process begins on Tuesday evening 21/7, 6pm with a meeting for both parent and child to attend. Attendance at this meeting is compulsory.
To finish off last term, our Year 3 students participated in a Poetry Slam, where each child shared their favourite poem with the class. There were plenty of laughs throughout the event, and it was fantastic to see every student reading with such enthusiasm and confidence.
We also celebrated a very special milestone, with a surprise party for Mrs Powell's 40th birthday on the last day of school. It was a wonderful way to end the term together. A big thank you to those families that shared some yummy treats for the party. It was greatly appreciated.
Another highlight was Pyjama Day, with students enjoying the opportunity to come to school in their comfy PJs and share in the fun.
Classroom Learning
This week, we have dived into our class novel for the first half of the term, The Iron Man by Ted Hughes. Students have been introduced to the mysterious main character and are already asking lots of questions about what might happen next. We look forward to uncovering the story together over the coming weeks.
Vocabulary Words of the Week:
- awkward
- darted
- brink
- enormous
We have our fortnightly Progress Monitoring spelling test this Friday and next week our Cumulative Review based on what we have learnt so far. The words from lists that will be revised include: to, too, two, who, together, remember, tomorrow, different, beautiful, through, surprise, never, every, ever, chocolate, people, believe, after, please, really. Ask your child to spell out the words using their ‘spelling voice’.
Term 3 Library Schedule:
Here is our Term 2 Library Schedule. Just a reminder that students are welcome to go to the library anytime to return or borrow books. Students still need a library bag to take books home with them.
Week 1: 3E
Week 2: 3S
Week 3: 3C
Week 4: 3E
Week 5: 3S
Week 6: 3C
In Mathematics, we have begun a new unit on Multiplication and Division. Students are exploring multiplication word problems and learning how to use bar models to help solve both multiplication and division questions.
In Writing, students will begin researching natural disasters in preparation for writing their own information reports. This will allow them to develop their research skills while learning how to present factual information in a clear and engaging way.
On Tuesday, students received their new devices, and Mr Ash Wheaton spent time introducing the class to their new laptops and explaining how to use them responsibly and effectively. The students were very excited to begin using this new technology to support their learning.
We are looking forward to a fantastic term of learning, growth and discovery!
Congratulations to our Student of the Week Award Winners from Last Term!

Have a good week,
