World Refugee Fundraising Event

Chai & Cookie Stall

On the 20th of June, Uni High School students Amritam, Ayman & Pranshu in Year 12 hosted a Chai Latte & Cookie Stall to raise funds for World Refugee Day. A total of $295 was raised & donated to the Asylum Seeker Resource Centre (ASRC), which has been supporting refugees for 24 years as of 2025.

What began in 2001 as a small, community-funded food bank in Footscray, led by a group of passionate TAFE students, eventually became the ASRC—Australia’s largest independent human rights organisation supporting people seeking asylum.

Amritam was inspired to run this fundraiser by the success of a tea stall he ran in 2023 with two of his friends, Pranshu and John. He greatly enjoyed the experience and reflected on how much effort they put into making it work. That original stall ended up raising $350, and the positive impact stuck with him. It made him think, “Why don’t we plan something like that again?” So they did—and brought the idea back to life this year.
