Mathematics Report

Computational and Algorithmic Thinking Competition

Congratulations to the 156 students who sat for this year’s CAT.  This problem-solving activity challenges students to consider a range of situations that require clear thinking over multiple steps to determine a solution. As an example, take a look at Question 6 from this year’s Junior Paper sat by Year 7 and 8 students. (Answer below)

This activity is generally considered a good indicator of student abilities in the area of coding.  With that in mind, students who have done well in this year’s CAT and who are already coding in their own time may wish to consider the Australian Informatics Olympiad to be offered next term.
