Student Voice &

Positive Environment

At Wyndham Central Secondary College, we believe that students achieve their best when they are empowered to actively participate in their learning and school community. Student Voice and Agency are more than educational priorities. They are fundamental to creating a connected, inclusive, and thriving school where students feel valued, respected, and empowered to make a difference.

This term, we have seen many examples of our students embracing opportunities to lead, contribute, and influence positive change across the College.

Our Student Representative Council (SRC) has continued to play a vital role in shaping school life. Alongside our Multicultural student leaders, students have contributed ideas and feedback to support initiatives such as Multicultural Week and advocated for improvements that enhance the experience of their peers. Their passion and commitment demonstrate the powerful impact students can have when they are provided with meaningful leadership opportunities.

Student voice is also flourishing in our classrooms. Teachers have recently completed PIVOT surveys, which will provide feedback to teachers around their strategies in the classroom and lead to meaningful discussion between the teacher and students to improve their learning experience. Across the College, teachers are partnering with students to set learning goals, reflect on their progress, and tailor learning experiences to meet the diverse needs, interests, and strengths of each learner. These collaborative approaches help students develop confidence, independence, and a greater sense of ownership over their learning journey.

These opportunities reflect our core values of:

  • Respect – recognising and valuing the perspectives, experiences, and contributions of every student.
  • Co-operation – working together to build a stronger and more connected school community.
  • Excellence – encouraging students to take responsibility for their learning and strive for continuous growth and achievement.

When students feel heard, trusted, and empowered, they become more engaged in their learning and more confident in their ability to contribute positively to the world around them. The skills they develop through leadership, collaboration, and decision-making are invaluable and extend far beyond the classroom.

As a college, we remain committed to fostering a culture where student voice and agency are embedded in everyday practice. Whether through leadership opportunities, classroom discussions, community projects, or school improvement initiatives, we are proud to create spaces where students are genuine partners in shaping their educational experience.

We encourage all students to continue sharing their ideas, embracing opportunities, and stepping forward as leaders. Every voice matters, and together our students are helping to shape the future of Wyndham Central Secondary College.
