Assistant Principal's Report

Welcome back to Term 3. I hope all of our students and families had a safe, relaxing, and enjoyable break. We are excited to see everyone return refreshed and ready for what is an incredibly important and busy term.

For our Year 12 students, Term 3 marks the beginning of the final stretch towards the end of your secondary schooling. This term is an opportunity to remain focused, seek support when needed, and continue building confidence in your learning. Every lesson, SAC, assessment, and study session counts, and we encourage you to make the most of the support available from your teachers and the Senior Years team.

Our Year 11 students are also entering a significant period of their VCE, VCE VM and VPC pathways. The habits you establish this term will set you up for success as you prepare for your final year of schooling. Continue to challenge yourself, ask questions, and take every opportunity to grow as an independent learner.

For our Year 10 students, this term is all about building strong foundations and beginning to think about the exciting pathways ahead. Whether you are preparing for VCE, VCE VM or another senior pathway, now is the time to develop positive study routines, maintain excellent attendance, and actively engage in your learning.

Across the term, students can look forward to a range of exciting opportunities, including subject selections, careers and pathway activities, sporting events, excursions, and whole-school celebrations. We encourage every student to get involved in the many opportunities available and to continue contributing positively to our school community.

A reminder to all students that regular attendance remains one of the strongest predictors of academic success. Every day at school matters. Being present, arriving on time, and participating fully in classes gives students the best opportunity to achieve their goals.

Senior Years Cooking Club

Our Senior Years Cooking Club is back this term, commencing on Wednesday 5 August from 3:10 pm – 4:30 pm. This program provides students with the opportunity to develop practical cooking skills, learn about healthy and affordable meal preparation, and enjoy cooking in a fun, social environment. 

Year 12 Pyjama Night

Our Year 12 students recently enjoyed a fantastic Year 12 Pyjama Night, taking the opportunity to connect with their peers, and enjoy a well-deserved celebration of their final year. The evening was filled with laughter, games, movies, and plenty of food, providing students with a chance to relax and strengthen friendships in a supportive environment. It was wonderful to see so many students attend and embrace the opportunity to focus on their wellbeing while creating lasting memories together. Thank you to everyone who helped make the evening such a success.

Year 10 Course Selection Interviews

Our Year 10 students recently participated in their 2027 Course Selection Interviews, an important milestone as they begin planning their senior secondary pathway. These interviews provided students and their families with the opportunity to discuss future aspirations, explore subject options, and select a pathway that best aligns with their strengths, interests, and post-school goals. Thank you to our students, families, Careers team, and staff who supported the process. We look forward to seeing our Year 10 students embark on the next stage of their educational journey with confidence and purpose.

I would also send a shout out to 10B, who ran the Year 10 Assembly last week. Congratulations to the students and teachers for putting together such a fun assembly, musical chairs was a highlight. Well done 10B!

Year Level Leader's Report - Year 10

It has been a big start to term 3 for our year 10's. Students have already had a day of experiencing VCE/VM subjects and following that our course counselling sessions to assist students with their subject selection for year 11 and 12.  It was fantastic to see an excellent turnout for the subject selection and see so many students engage in thoughtful discussions about their future careers and their pathway to get there. Thank you to all families and the staff who supported those discussions.   

The subject selection process is now completed, and we are working through selections to produce the classes for next year. 

Congratulations to all the successful VM candidates.  We had such a strong field of candidates that we will be running two VM classes next year. Formal letters are being sent out and VET enrolment forms will be provided once available from the region, usually in term 4. 

We also want to celebrate all the amazing students who have participated in multi-cultural week. It was a superb week of dancing, face-painting and the sharing of stories and cultures. I know those who were able to attend the Family Night had a fantastic time. 

The events continue, with the school musical, Science Week and Book Week and I look forward to the year 10s participation.  

We are also seeing the students host assembly with students performing, any students who are interested can get involved and show their talent as I know we have a diverse range of highly talented students.

Year Level Leader's Report - Year 11

Week 3 was a vibrant celebration of diversity, culture, and community as our school came together to recognise Multicultural Week. Throughout the week, students and staff embraced the opportunity to learn more about the many cultures that make up our school community. 

One of the highlights was the Fashion Show, where students proudly showcased traditional and cultural attire, sharing an important part of their heritage with others. We were also treated to a range of energetic and heartfelt dance performances that reflected cultures from around the world. These experiences provided valuable opportunities for students to celebrate differences, foster understanding, and strengthen our sense of belonging. It was particularly wonderful to see our Year 11 students actively participating and contributing to the success of the week.

As we continue through the term, we would also like to remind families of a few everyday expectations that help ensure our school remains a safe, organised, and positive learning environment for all students.

Mobile phones brought to school must be switched off and securely stored in student lockers during the school day. If there is a need to contact a student urgently, families are encouraged to do so through the Administration Office.

Wearing the full school uniform is an important part of demonstrating pride in our school and maintaining a strong sense of community. We ask that students arrive at school each day dressed in the correct uniform. If families are experiencing difficulties obtaining uniform items, please reach out to your child’s Tutor Teacher, who will be happy to provide support.

Students are also reminded to make use of their allocated locker and lock to store personal belongings. To help keep classrooms safe, uncluttered, and conducive to learning, bags should remain in lockers throughout the day unless otherwise directed by staff.

Thank you for your ongoing support in reinforcing these expectations. By working together, we can continue to provide a positive and respectful environment where all students can thrive.

Year 12 Parent Student Teacher Conferences

The Year 12 Parent Student Teacher Conferences will be held on Tuesday, 11/08/2026. The bookings are open now and will close on Monday 10/08/26. Please use your Compass login to make bookings and contact IT support if you need any further assistance with your Compass login or making a booking at itsupport@wyndhamcentralsc.vic.edu.au or call the College on 8744 8900.

You must book an appointment with each teacher you would like to see. If you are unable to attend the interview in person due to other commitments, we recommend that you still book an interview through Compass. Please email the teacher beforehand and request that they call you at your scheduled interview time to discuss your child's progress and strategies to support their academic improvement.

Lateness to school and classes

We seek your continued support in ensuring that your child arrives at school on time each day, ideally before 9:00 am. The Wyntime session, which begins promptly at 9:00 am, is a vital part of the school day. It provides students with valuable opportunities to prepare for the day ahead, receive important reminders, collaborate with peers, and engage in wellbeing activities—especially important in their final year of VCE. It is also essential that students attend all their scheduled classes on time throughout the day. Persistent lateness or failure to attend classes on time may result in afterschool detention or other appropriate consequences. We appreciate your support in reinforcing the importance of punctuality and full attendance as key habits for academic success and personal responsibility.

Eligibility for Victorian Certificate of Education 

To be awarded the Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE), students must successfully complete at least 16 units over 2 years, which must include three units from the English group, with at least one Unit 3 and 4 sequence, and three additional Unit 3 and 4 sequences in any other subjects. In practical terms, Year 12 students are expected to pass a minimum of four subjects, including English (equivalent to 8 units), unless they have already completed a Unit 3 & 4 subject in Year 11 through acceleration. Failing a subject may negatively impact a student’s ATAR and could affect their eligibility for certain university or tertiary courses.

Students who have received a Not Satisfactory (N) result in Unit 3 for one or more of their five subjects in Semester 1 need to complete the outstanding work for Unit 3 as soon as possible and submit to their teacher to receive an S grade in Unit 3 for the failed subjects. Families and carers are encouraged to contact the relevant subject teachers to discuss any incomplete work and understand how to support their child in achieving an S (Satisfactory) result in the relevant subject(s). Your partnership in this process is vital to your child’s continued progress and success.

After School Tutoring

The college has engaged our Alumni as tutors to provide additional academic support for Year 11 and 12 students—whether they are seeking to improve their results or aiming for excellence. We encourage families to emphasise the importance of attending after-school tutoring sessions, especially if there are concerns about academic progress. 

Tutoring is available in the following subjects:

• Outdoor Education, General Mathematics, Media, Psychology, Art, English, Health and Human Development, Biology, Accounting and Physics.

DFFH Student Scholarship Program

Applications for the 2027 academic year are now open. Applications close Friday 21 August 2026. Schools and TAFEs are invited to apply on behalf of eligible students. Eligibility criteria:

• under 21 years of age at 1 February 2027;

• an Australian citizen or permanent resident;

• experiencing financial hardship;

• living in social housing (i.e. public or community-managed housing) or at risk of homelessness;)

• studying in Year 11 or Year 12 at a Victorian Government school, or the equivalent at a Victorian TAFE for the 2027 academic year;

• have the potential to achieve a good attendance record and a successful educational outcome in the 2027 academic year;

• supported within the school/ TAFE by an appropriate staff member such as a well-being coordinator or counsellor.

Western Chances scholarships

Western Chances Scholarships, valued at between $600 - $1,000 per year, can support a variety of areas including, but not limited to:

• Laptops, Textbook, Home internet, MYKI (for those over 18 years), Calculators

• Scholarships can be tailor-made for specific educational needs.

 Eligibility criteria: A student must: 

• Be aged 12 to 25 years at time of first scholarship application. 

• Be enrolled at a government secondary school within one of the following council regions – Brimbank, City of Greater Geelong, Hobsons Bay, Maribyrnong, Melton, Moonee Valley or Wyndham.

• Be enrolled at TAFE, university, or a community service organisation and a resident in the above local government areas. 

• Demonstrate high academic/artistic achievement, motivation and commitment to education or a pathway. 

• Demonstrate financial need or hardship.
