Year 9 City School Experience

Over three exciting days this term, our Year 9 students participated in the annual City School program, immersing themselves in the rich educational, cultural and recreational opportunities available in Melbourne's CBD. Students visited a range of iconic locations including the Eureka Skydeck, Royal Botanic Gardens, State Library Victoria, Melbourne Museum, IMAX Theatre and a local radio station. They also enjoyed some well-earned fun through activities such as ten-pin bowling and took part in a tram challenge that saw groups travelling across the city to complete a scavenger hunt-style activity, capturing creative selfies at a range of Melbourne landmarks along the way.
A key feature of the program was the opportunity for students to navigate the city independently while adhering to a rigorous timetable. Throughout the experience, students demonstrated increasing confidence, responsibility and resilience as they managed public transport, met scheduled checkpoints, worked collaboratively with their peers and represented Thornbury High School positively in the wider community. We are extremely proud of the maturity, independence and enthusiasm shown by our Year 9 cohort and thank all staff who contributed to making the program such a success.
