Pride Week 2026 - A Week to Remember
What a week! During Week 5 (18-22 May) THS held its inaugural Pride Week celebrating allyship, visibility, creativity and sport. And, our school community showed up in the most incredible way. Here's a look back at everything that made this week so special.
Monday - Learning & Listening
We kicked off Pride Week with a powerful start. Pride Cup joined us to deliver an LGBTIQ+ Education session for all Year 10–12 PE-related students, setting the tone for a week of growth and understanding. We then hosted a Guest Speaker Panel featuring the inspiring voices of Mitch Brown, Aurelia St Clair, Dandrogeny, Caitlin Bunker, and Hannah Wilkinson, who shared what pride means to them and how each of us can show up as better allies. The conversations were honest, heartfelt, and ones we won't forget.
Tuesday - Wear Your Pride
Students got hands-on with creativity at our arts and crafts session, designing their very own ally or visibility badges to wear with pride. They also had the chance to put their values into writing by contributing a pledge to our growing pledge wall. Seeing the wall fill up with promises of support and solidarity was truly something special.
Wednesday - Lights, Camera, Heartstopper!
Midweek, we dimmed the lights and screened an episode of the beloved series Heartstopper, a feel-good favourite that had everyone smiling. A perfect moment to pause, connect, and enjoy a story that champions love and acceptance.
Thursday - Game On!
Pride Cup returned to help us run our very own Pride Cup right here at school! Two games were played simultaneously - a female/gender-diverse game and a male game - bringing energy, team spirit, and plenty of cheers. Sport has never felt so inclusive and exciting!
Friday - Prom Prom & Giving Back
What a way to close out the week! Our casual clothes day raised an incredible $730 for Pride Cup - a testament to the generosity of our whole school community. And to top it all off, we hosted our very first Pride Prom in the Steam Centre, where drag artist Dandrogeny dazzled everyone with a stunning catwalk before the dance floor opened up for a lunchtime to remember.
Pride Week 2026 was more than just a series of events - it was a celebration of who we are, who we're becoming, and the kind of community Thornbury High School is committed to building together. A huge thank you to everyone who participated, volunteered, performed, and showed up with an open heart.
