Darebin Division Sport
It has been an action packed second half of term, with plenty of sport options for Years 7-10!
Credit to all the students for their application, enthusiasm and participation in the training sessions, meetings and event days. We had enormous interest in all the different teams, which was reflected in our performances.
Special mention to our teams that won their event days and have qualified for North Metro Region finals in Term 3!
Winning teams: Y9/10 Girls Soccer, Y9/10 Boys Netball, Y8 Boys Football, Y8 Girls Netball, Y7 Girls Badminton, Y7 Boys Soccer, Y7 Girls Soccer.
Darebin Athletics Carnival
On Friday May 29, the Darebin Athletics Carnival was held at Meadowglen International Athletics Stadium. We had close to 60 students representing Thornbury, combining to win an incredible 35 events! Winners of events will now progress through to the NMR Athletics Carnival in Term 3.
North Metro Region
The NMR Cross Country event was held at Bundoora Park on Wednesday June 17, with 21 students competing. Special mention to our four athletes that finished in the top 12 of their races, meaning they qualified for State Cross Country; Michaela Belles, Maddie Carr-Howes, Evan Kondys and Aiden Hickmott. Michaela and Maddie were both on the podium in their respective races, finishing in 2nd place! Congratulations also to our two age groups that finished runner-up as a team. This accounts for the combined place finishes for our top three ranked runners:
15 Girls age group: Michaela Belles, Lynn Kodsi, Jemima Sagar
13 Boys age group: Aiden Hickmott, Ged Morland, Connor Stanton.
Finally, a massive thank you to all the students, student coaches, teachers, parents and carers for the support with a very productive first semester of sport!
