Junior School Report

Junior School News!

I would like to warmly welcome Mr Sohtra and Mr Dempsey to the Junior School team while Mrs Smith is on leave this term.

Mr Dempsey will be working closely with our Year 7 students, supporting their transition into secondary school, while Mr Sohtra will be supporting our Year 9 students as they prepare for their transition into the Senior School next year.

I will continue to oversee the Junior School while working closely with our Year 8 students.

In the blink of an eye, we are already in Week 4!

Our students have been busy engaging in their academic learning as well as a range of valuable co-curricular opportunities.

Athletics Day was a fantastic success, and it was wonderful to see so many of our Year 7 to 10 students proudly wearing their house colours, participating enthusiastically in events and encouraging one another throughout the day.

Our Year 8 students also recently participated in the Flourish Program and The Man Cave, where they developed strategies to build confidence, strengthen relationships, challenge themselves and increase their emotional awareness and resilience. During these sessions, I was incredibly proud to see the level of engagement, respect and encouragement students showed towards one another.

As always, many of our students have also represented the college in interschool sport and participated in a range of KIOSC learning experiences.

It was also incredibly rewarding to see so many Junior School students recognised at our recent assembly.

Students were acknowledged for their Endeavour and Excellence Awards, while others were recognised for their outstanding growth and achievement in NAPLAN. Celebrating these successes is a wonderful reminder that achievement comes in many forms, and we are incredibly proud of the effort, persistence and growth demonstrated by our students.

Reminders

  • Equipment and textbooks: Students are reminded to come prepared to every lesson with all required equipment, including their reading novels for the new English units.
  • Uniform: Uniform expectations will continue to be a focus throughout the term. This includes correct school shoes, the approved PE uniform (including track pants), the formal school uniform, jewellery, piercings and hair colour in line with the school's Uniform Policy. Please note that notes for wearing hoodies instead of the school jacket will not be accepted, as loan jackets are available through the Junior School.
  • Arriving on time: During the winter months we have seen an increase in late arrivals. Arriving on time ensures students do not miss valuable learning and helps maintain accurate attendance records. Please note that, under Department attendance requirements, any lateness is recorded as a half-day attendance, making punctuality extremely important.

Upcoming Events

  • Year 9 City Week and Year 8 Camp at Allambee in November. Further information, including consent and payment details, will be available on Compass in the coming weeks.

Thank you to our students and families for your continued support. We look forward to another successful and rewarding term in the Junior School.

Mrs Sarah Wilson
