Community Art Project – Celebrating “Belong”

As part of their PDS units, students have been working closely with a local artist to create a special collection of artworks for the upcoming City of Whittlesea Festival, taking place in May. This exciting community partnership has provided students with the opportunity to learn new artistic techniques while contributing to a public event that celebrates creativity and connection.

Throughout the project, students explored the theme of “Belong”, reflecting on what it means to feel connected to community, culture, family and place. Using both 2D and 3D dry felting techniques, they learned how to manipulate wool fibres to create textured, layered and sculptural pieces. Many students embraced the hands-on process, demonstrating patience, focus and creativity as their ideas came to life.

The finished artworks are imaginative, thoughtful and beautifully crafted. From symbolic designs to abstract representations of unity and inclusion, each piece tells a unique story about belonging. We are incredibly proud of the effort, collaboration and artistic growth shown by our students throughout this project.

We look forward to seeing their work showcased at the City of Whittlesea Festival in May and encourage families to attend and support this wonderful celebration of community creativity.
