Grade 2 Community News

Dear Grade 2 Families,

We are continuing to have an amazing term 1. The students are becoming increasingly confident with our new maths and literacy routines and are working hard to achieve their learning goals.

English

In InitiaLit, we have been focusing on mastering a variety of spelling rules, such as, long vowels and bossy ‘e’, along with new tricky words such as, were, friend, and February.

This week we have started a new text ‘Snail and the Whale’. Through this text we are identifying our new vocabulary words and classifying them as either nouns, verbs or adjectives. During fluency lessons, we were learning about information texts and identifying their features.

Maths

In Maths, the students have been continuing to build their confidence when making, saying and writing 2-digit numbers as well as building on their number bond knowledge for addition and subtraction problems as well as finding the missing parts.

Respectful Relationships

We have been focusing on identifying other people's emotions and on how we can help them.

Take Home Reading

At Tarneit Rise, we encourage students to read every school night to practise their skills and develop a love of reading.

Each child has been allocated a specific library day, which has been communicated with your child. On this day, please ensure your child brings their reading satchel, so that books can be safely stored and transported between home and school.

Harmony Day

On March 20th, 2026, Tarneit Rise will celebrate Harmony Day. A special day that recognises the many cultures, backgrounds, and traditions that make our school community so vibrant. Harmony Day teaches students that everyone belongs and deserves to feel safe, valued, and respected. It is a wonderful opportunity for students to dress up in their cultural attire and celebrate what makes each of us unique!
