Grade 4 Community News

Dear Year 4 Families,

We cannot believe we are already in Week 6! The students continue to demonstrate a positive attitude towards their learning and are showing increasing confidence across all subject areas. It has been wonderful to see their persistence when faced with challenges and the respectful way they support one another in the classroom. We are very proud of their continued efforts.

English:

In English, students are finalising their narratives using the Narrative Hill structure to clearly organise their ideas (orientation, rising action, climax, falling action and resolution). Their writing theme has been Two Unlikely Friends, and it has been wonderful to see the creative and thoughtful ways students have developed their characters and storylines.

Students are also strengthening their sentence structure by learning to write and identify simple, compound and complex sentences. They are practising how to vary their sentences to make their writing more engaging, detailed and cohesive.

Mathematics:

In Mathematics, students will begin learning to read and write 6-digit numbers, developing their understanding of place value and number patterns. They will also begin a unit on time, where they will read, interpret and solve problems involving time. Through the EMP program, students will continue building their problem-solving skills, explaining their reasoning and exploring multiple strategies.

Humanities:

In Humanities, students will be finalising their unit on Habitats. Throughout this unit, they have explored Australia’s natural environments and compared them to different habitats around the world. Students have examined how climate, vegetation and water sources support living things, and how environments shape the way people live. They have also learnt about how First Nations Peoples care for Country through sustainable practices and deep cultural connections to the land.

Students will soon begin an exciting new unit on the Vikings, where they will investigate who the Vikings were, how they lived, and the impact they had on other societies.

Respectful Relationships:

In Respectful Relationships, students have been learning about emotional literacy by identifying emotional triggers and recognising how emotions can arise across the school day. They have also explored their personal and cultural strengths, discussing how these strengths can help them respond positively in different situations, build confidence and strengthen their relationships with others.

REMINDERS:

• Labour Day Public Holiday: Monday, 9th March

• Harmony Day: Friday, 20th March

On Harmony Day, Tarneit Rise Primary School will celebrate the many cultures, backgrounds and traditions that make our community so special. Students are encouraged to dress in cultural attire or wear orange to show their support. Harmony Day reminds us that everyone belongs and deserves to feel safe, valued and respected.

• Please ensure students are wearing their school hats during recess and lunch in Term 1.

• Students should bring their fully charged iPads to school each day.

Thank you for your continued support. We look forward to a strong finish to the term!

Warm regards,

The Year 4 Team
