Term 1, Week 8 Update

Can you believe we are already in Week 8? This term has absolutely flown by! Our 3/4 students have been deeply immersed in our study of Indonesia, exploring everything from its geographical location in relation to Australia to its unique weather and climate patterns.

A key takeaway for the students has been discovering that—much like in Australia—where you live greatly impacts how you live. To help describe these environments, we’ve added some impressive new vocabulary to our toolkit:

  • Archipelago: Understanding Indonesia as a diverse group of islands.
  • Urban vs. Rural: Comparing the hustle of city life to the pace of the countryside.

This cultural exploration extended into our Art sessions over the last fortnight. We learned about the rich traditions of Indonesian masks and puppetry, which inspired the students to design and draw their very own intricate masks.

Community Connections

Beyond the classroom, we have been busy strengthening our ties with the local community through two very special programs:

  • Preschool Reading Buddies: Every second Tuesday, we visit the preschool as part of our Literacy block. It is wonderful to watch our students practice their reading fluency while fostering a love of books in the younger children.

  • Richardson House Visits: We have also been visiting Richardson House every second Friday. It has been lovely to witness these intergenerational relationships develop, with many students telling me how they are looking forward to chatting with the residents again or wanting to follow up on a question from a previous visit.
