Learning News 1/2

Mrs Justine Harris

We have continued to have a fabulous time during our news sessions, coming up with some great ideas for our writing. We have also had plenty of suggestions from the audience to contribute to making our stories interesting and fun.

Maths

We have been using numicon, MAB, and magnetic materials in maths to make, write and draw large numbers. We have used place value houses to make sure we have the correct amount in each column. Trying to trick a partner has been a great motivator to finding a challenging number.

Religion

In Religion, the story of the mustard seed has given us an opportunity to create some detailed illustrations when reflecting on the message in the story. It was amazing to learn that such a tiny seed could create such a large tree. We also discussed the other benefits we receive from trees such as shelter, shade, homes for animals and birds, a cubby house, and to grow fruit.

History

In history we have looked at the days of the week, months, and calendars. We put all the important days into the month of April. It is a busy time ahead: Easter Hat Parade, Cross Country, Easter, school holidays, three birthdays, ANZAC day, and a public holiday. We then selected one to illustrate in our book.

What a fun time we had learning an Irish jig on St Patrick’s Day. Not everyone was accurate with their steps, but their enthusiasm was over the top. Luckily Mrs Wilson and Mrs Harris did not need a defibrillator!

Finally, what a wonderful effort each student made in creating our school show display and our individual collages. It was wonderful to see them all displayed at the show. I also noticed other student’s entries in the sections of cooking, art, produce, flowers, chickens, pets, motorbikes, and horse events. Congratulations and well done students and parents.
