Year 3 - Middle Unit

As we come to the end of Semester 1, we would like to thank all parents and carers who took the time to meet with teachers during our recent Parent-Teacher Interviews. These meetings provided a great opportunity to celebrate the achievements of the students, while also discussing their progress and learning goals for Term 3.

During Inquiry, students have been putting their knowledge of forces into action through the design and construction of marble runs. Working in teams, they have planned, built and tested obstacle courses with the aim of slowing a marble down as much as possible. Along the way, students have been developing their teamwork, problem-solving and design skills, while applying their understanding of gravity, friction and momentum in a hands-on and engaging way.

Over the past week, students have been busy putting the finishing touches on their marble runs through testing and tweaking their designs. There has been plenty of trial and error as students have worked out what changes will help slow their marble down even further. Race Day is taking place today and tomorrow (Thursday and Friday), and we are looking forward to seeing all of the students' hard work and creativity on display.

In Reading and Writing, students have been exploring the language of persuasion through product advertising. They have analysed and critiqued a range of advertising mediums, including posters and billboards, television commercials and radio advertisements in the form of jingles. Students have unpacked the persuasive techniques used to grab an audience's attention and convince them to purchase a product. Currently, students are working in groups to write the lyrics for their own advertising jingles. These lyrics will then be entered into an AI music generator, bringing their ideas to life with music and vocals. The students have thoroughly enjoyed the process and have come up with some incredibly creative ideas.

Thank you once again for your support throughout Semester 1. It has certainly been a busy and rewarding semester, and we are incredibly proud of all that the Year 3 students have achieved.
