Foundation Unit

After a few busy weeks focused around assessments for reports, the Foundation students were happy to settle back into our normal daily routine.
In Reading, we have continued to make connections when reading texts. Students have been developing their ability to explain the connection as well as identifying what type of connection they have made (text to self or text to text).
In Writing, students have continued writing to share an opinion. The students have been exploring more dangerous animals and sharing why they believe people should not go near these animals. Students have continued to focus on letter formation and using lower case letters except for at the start of a sentence and for names.
In our Phonics lessons, students have started to explore digraph. The students have been reading and recording words including the digraph ‘th’. It has been fantastic to see students identifying the sound when looking at their high frequency words and also experimenting with it during reading and writing sessions.
In Maths, students have continued to explore part-part whole and have been learning some card games that they could play over the holidays to practise their knowledge of friends of 10. If you would like to play these games at home, you will need a deck of playing cards. Please ensure you remove picture cards and 10 from the deck of cards, so students only have cards from 1-9.
The games the students have learned are:
Friends of 10 Go Fish
Friends of 10 Memory
Friends of 10 Snap
Finally, a big thank you to Tiara, who has been completing her teaching placement in PBS with Miss Smith. Tiara has done a wonderful job at fitting in with our Foundation team and has enjoyed spending time with both PBS and PLC. We wish her all the best for the bright teaching career in front of her.
