Year 1/2 Unit

It’s hard to believe that we are signing off on the first half of the year - and what a first half it has been! Incursions, excursions, dress ups, lapathons and most importantly a jam packed two semesters of learning.
Students have been busy wrapping up the final week by completing the making of their ‘movable toy’. It has been a wonderful opportunity to see pairs planning, making, refining and reconsidering some of their ideas – and having to problem solve together. As is often the case in learning - it was all about the journey, not just the destination!!
Alongside the Inquiry unit, students have been reading stories about toys and crafting their own toy-based narratives. We have enjoyed writing class books and sharing these with our peers. In Maths we have been working on learning about different addition strategies and are ready to explore subtraction at the start of next term.
Week 10 brought the valuable opportunity for Parents and Teachers to meet and discuss student progress throughout Semester 1 and we thank parents for the opportunity to discuss your child’s learning in greater depth. We look forward to continuing these discussions in Week 1 for those parents we have not yet met with.
Finally, students (and staff) were able to throw themselves into a realm of creativity making costumes that begin with a letter in their first or last name. Half the fun was guessing exactly what and which initial they had chosen to come dressed as! We loved this idea and thank the Junior School Council for coming up with such a fun theme to raise money for a very special cause in MND.
We would like to extend our thanks and appreciation for such a terrific first semester of learning and wish everyone a safe and relaxing break with family and friends.
