Welcome back to Term 3, 2026, and to an exciting new chapter in our library’s transformation.

The school holidays were an incredibly busy time in the library as our wonderful Maintenance Team worked tirelessly to help bring the next stage of our remodelling to life. Their efforts included removing the circulation desk and other outdated furniture, repainting the space, and giving the library a much-needed refresh. The project also involved relocating more than 3,000 books, along with shelves, tables, and chairs. Every bit of hard work was worthwhile when the first group of students walked through the doors and described the new space as “outstanding”.

We are thrilled with the result. The redesigned library provides more room for students, improved book displays, and a bright, welcoming environment for reading, studying, and learning. It is a privilege to work in such a beautiful space and to see our students continue to grow in their love of reading.

Did you know that more than 30 classes now visit the library as a group each fortnight? In addition, our dedicated Year 11 students make regular use of the library for study throughout the school day. We have also been delighted to welcome the four-year-old groups from Oxley Kids, who enjoy listening to stories and selecting books to take back with them. After all, a love of reading can never start too early.

The holidays also provided an opportunity for some much-anticipated book shopping. A number of new titles have been added to our collection, and several popular series have now been completed to meet student demand. One of the greatest joys of working in the library is seeing students enthusiastically recommend books to one another or eagerly line up to borrow the latest additions to our shelves.

Of course, one of the highlights of the term is Book Week, and we have some exciting opportunities planned for our students.

This year, our Prep to Year 2 students enjoyed a special performance by Perform Education in the BPAC on Wednesday 13 August. Their production, Symphony of Stories, brings together music, storytelling, and drama, and will feature three wonderful books: The Colour of Home, Dawn, and Dear Broccoli.

This week, our Year 3 to Year 6 students participated in an engaging workshop in the library with renowned Christian children's author Simon Camilleri. Simon is known for his creative storytelling and his passion for helping children connect with faith through books.

Later that day, all members of the Oxley community are warmly invited to join us in Chapel, where Simon will share again and provide insights into his work as an author. His books, including resources that encourage children in prayer and Bible reading, will be available for purchase at a special discounted price for Oxley families. We are looking forward to celebrating Book Week together and inspiring our students with a love of stories, reading, and learning.
