Prep
Our Prep students have been busy learning, exploring and creating as they continue to enjoy a wonderful range of learning experiences this term—including celebrating their 100 Days of School!
In Performing Arts, the students have been enthusiastically learning their song from Chitty Chitty Bang Bang JR. They have loved singing along, learning the words and actions, and developing their confidence as performers. It has been wonderful to see their excitement grow as they prepare to share their performance with others.
In Mathematics, our young mathematicians have been exploring the concept of capacity. Students have been investigating how much different containers can hold and developing their understanding by ordering objects according to their capacity. Through hands-on experiences, they have been making predictions, comparing containers and using mathematical language to explain their thinking.
Our Integrated Studies learning has also been filled with creativity and problem-solving. Students have been designing and making their own boats, exploring which designs would help their boats float. They eagerly tested their creations, observed what happened and made changes to improve their designs. This hands-on learning encouraged students to think like engineers as they experimented, solved problems and learned from their experiences.
It has been wonderful to see our Prep students learning with such enthusiasm, curiosity and joy across all areas of the curriculum!
Year 1
In Year 1, we have been busy discovering the wonderful world of sentences! We have been learning to ask questions before, during and after reading to help us think deeply about what we read. This week has begun our exploration of summarising, learning how to identify the most important events and ideas and retell them in our own words. A favourite time in class involves sharing our thinking, discussing texts and working together to decide what information is. All of our learning has enabled us to grow in confidence and curiosity grow as readers!
Year 2
Over the last couple of weeks, Year 2 students have become expert researchers, using World Book Online to unearth new and interesting facts about animals. Whether a creature is covered in fur, feathers or scales, we are in awe that their specific features help them to thrive in their habitat—God created every animal, plant and human for a purpose! Years 3 & 4
In Week 5, the Year 3 and 4 students participated in an exciting science incursion, Hot, Hot, Hot! with Kane from Supercharged Science.
Building on our Integrated Studies learning about thinking like scientists and making discoveries through observation and investigation, we took part in a hands-on workshop exploring the fascinating world of heat energy. Through a range of interactive experiments, we discovered that as heat increases, the particles within a substance move faster and gain more energy. It was incredible to see these scientific concepts come to life right in our classroom!
Throughout the session, we were captivated by a range of exciting demonstrations and investigations. We observed a spectacular combustion experiment, explored heat-sensitive thermochromic dyes that revealed hidden colours and patterns when warmed, and created our own heat-powered toy to take home and share with our families. These engaging activities helped us develop a deeper understanding of how heat energy can be transferred and used in different ways.
We also learned about the Sun's important role as Earth's primary source of heat energy and explored how this energy supports life and influences our everyday lives. Through discussion and experimentation, we began to make connections between the science we encountered in the classroom and the world around us.
Seeing flames and heat demonstrations up close made the learning experience both memorable and exciting. The incursion sparked curiosity, encouraged scientific thinking, and inspired us to ask questions, make observations, and think critically about how heat energy is used in our world. It was a fantastic opportunity for us young scientists to experience the wonder of science in action!
Year 5
We’ve had a great start to Term 3! We really enjoyed going to watch the Secondary School Production of Newsies, and we were all in awe of their amazing talent. Many of us in Year 5 are excited to get to Secondary School so we can be in the musicals too! Speaking of musicals, we are eagerly anticipating Chitty Chitty Bang Bang JR., and we’ve been busy practising our songs and choreography. In English, we have been developing our writing skills by creating detailed and interesting procedures. Our latest prompt was ‘How to Become a World Champion at…’, where we got to choose something we were passionate about and explain the steps needed to become a champion. In Mathematics, we have been learning about decimals and percentages. We have especially been loving the interactive games we’ve participated in to help us understand these concepts.
Year 6
We have had a wonderful two weeks in Year 6! Production rehearsals are now in full swing, and we are slowly transforming into the characters of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang JR. We have been working hard to learn our lines, perfect our choreography, and develop our skills as engaging performers. We are so excited to share this production with you very soon!
In Writing, we have been focusing on developing our ability to create precise, entertaining, and informative procedural texts. Based on the topics of the procedures we have produced, we clearly have some incredible experts in our year level! We now have the knowledge to teach others how to drive a teacher crazy, how to be the perfect child, and even how to procrastinate successfully.
