Principal's Report

Term 3

I had the privilege today of congratulating our Year 12 VCE/VM students for officially completing their schooling. I still remember meeting some of the them at their P-9 Colleges in 2023 and now the majority of them have turned 18 years of age, learning to drive, have part time work, and ready to go on to achieve in their adult lives. Our first Year 12 students and our current Year 9 students are our foundation students and it does feel that time has flown by very quickly with our Year 12 VCE students beginning their final exams at the end of October and our Year 9 students choosing their subjects for Senior school. I am looking forward to seeing so many of our families at the Graduation Dinner and Celebration later in the year. This is where we can proudly congratulate all of our students on completing their schooling.

Commitment to Teaching & Learning

To support our teachers with the delivery of the VCE/VM program which allows the continual focus on improved student learning outcomes the College partnered with the Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Authority (VCAA) to deliver our Term 3 Curriculum day. We welcomed 15 curriculum specialist, including Dr. Sean Butler, Executive Director of Curriculum and  Gerald Martin, Director of Early Years and Victorian Curriculum F-10. Staff worked in subject and year level teams across the day with input into curriculum units and assessment tasks by the specialist VCAA team.

Our teachers have worked with great commitment across the Term to continue to expand their knowledge and understanding of how to best plan, deliver and evaluate curriculum for our students using the Victorian Teaching and Learning Model 2.0 (VTLM 2.0) and VCE Study designs.

Stage 2 Build Update 2026

Due to some consistent weather I am happy to report that the Stage 2 building project is running according to schedule. Currently, at the Junior campus the undercover pavillions which include extra seating for students; and kitchen garden are completed. The extra outdoor sport courts will be in use in early Term 4 as too will be the oval. We will also see the arrival of two double storey relocatables and further staff bathrooms onto the Junior campus in readiness for 2027.

The four new buildings at the Senior campus are also on track for completion for hand over later this year. Along with the two general learning buildings, art and arts/technology building which will be the home of subjects like Visual arts, Ceramics, Media, Visual Communication & Design; the campus will also see additional undercover pavillions with seating; shade sails over the outdoor amphitheatre; high fences and gates all in position by the end of 2026.

This is a fantastic outcome for our current and all future students to the College!

Staffing Update

I would like to congratulate our Mental Health Practitioner, Renee Dowling who will be finishing with us this term as she has been appointed as the Early Intervention and Prevention Clinician at the Mental Health Centre for Excellence and Innovation with Victoria Police. We have been fortunate as a College to be able to learn from Renee's expertise and we wish her well in her future promotion.

We also welcomed this term our African Community Liaison Officer, Daniel Geberemedhen. Daniel will be working across the two campuses three days a week and he will also continue his work at Truganina P-9 College the other days, allowing him to continue to build connections with young people in the area. Daniel’s position is possible because of a Department Education Initiative with the Victorian African Communities Action Plan. The role will be required to support school communities to focus on increasing school engagement, strengthening partnerships with families and communities to increase retention and school completion.

Finally,

Our enrolment numbers continue to grow steadily with projects for 2027 currently stretching over 1700 students across both campuses. This does require the recruitment of further staff members to support the delivery of our subjects and services to our students.

Enjoy the September holidays and the spring weather!
