Regional Senior Boys Badminton
After qualifying for the Regional Competition, the Senior Boys Badminton team competed at Altona Badminton Centre on 28 July. Jasper, Shahid, Viren and Ali represented Bemin, competing against Werribee SC, Homestead Senior SC and MSA. The Senior boys team progressed through the pool stage making it to the semi-finals, where they faced Braybrook College. Jasper and Viren showcased excellent footwork and badminton skills throughout the competition. Although the team fell short in the semi-final, they put up a strong and competitive fight. Overall, it was a successful and enjoyable event, with the boys representing Bemin Secondary College with pride.
Senior Soccer Boys
The Senior Boys Soccer team have had an outstanding run in school sport this year, producing one of the most successful campaigns in Bemin Secondary College’s history. The boys went undefeated throughout the Interzone competition, impressively keeping a clean sheet in every game. Their strong performances saw them claim the Interzone title and secure their place at the Western Regionals.
At Western Regionals, the boys continued their remarkable form. Facing four back-to-back games, they demonstrated outstanding courage, resilience and determination, once again maintaining their clean sheet throughout the competition. Their dominant performances secured their place in the Western Regionals Grand Final and put them within reach of a potential State competition appearance. In a tightly contested Grand Final against Buckley Park College, the boys unfortunately fell just short in a penalty shootout. Despite the result, finishing runners-up across the Western Region represents an incredible achievement.
With 152 schools competing across the wider Western Region of Victoria, Bemin Secondary College’s Senior Boys Soccer team can be extremely proud of their 2nd-place finish. A huge congratulations to all the boys for their commitment, teamwork and determination throughout the season. A special mention goes to our Captain, Uday Kaushal, and Vice Captain, Justin Manalo, for their leadership both on and off the field.
Intermediate Boys and Girls Basketball
The Year 10 Boys team competed at the Interschool Sports competition at Eagle Stadium on 10 August. After a tough opening game against Tarneit Senior, the boys showed great resilience, bouncing back with convincing wins against Brinbeal and Al-Taqwa. They then secured second place with a strong win over Dohertys Creek P–9, showcasing excellent skill, speed and athleticism throughout the competition.
The Year 10 Girls team competed at the Interschool Sports competition against Tarneit Senior, Dohertys Creek and Tarneit P–9. They secured an exciting 16–15 victory over Tarneit P–9 in a thrilling opening game. Despite a tough loss to Dohertys Creek, the girls showed great resilience, with standout performances from Natifa and Kansiree, whose speed, agility and pressure defence helped secure a second win against Al-Taqwa College.
Bemin Athletics Carnival
On Thursday 30 July, around 900 Bemin students made the trip to the Truganina Athletics Track for our annual Athletics Carnival.
From the first heats in the morning through to the final relays, students competed across the full program of track and field events: sprints, middle distance and relays on the track, and long jump, high jump, shot put, discus and javelin on the field. For some, the day was about chasing a personal best or a place at Division. For plenty of others, it was about having a go at an event they'd never tried before.
Just as important were the students who came to support. The sidelines were a sea of house colours all day, and the noise every time a Bemin runner came down the home straight left no doubt that students were genuinely invested in how their house went. Bradman took out the overall shield with 404 points, holding off a determined Gillard on 364.
The food trucks were a definite highlight, with steady queues from the first event to the last.
Events on this scale only run smoothly because of the people behind them. Thank you to our PE staff, to the additional staff who gave up their day to marshall, time, measure and record, and to our house leaders, whose organisation and energy kept students where they needed to be from start to finish.
Congratulations to every student who qualified for the Division competition on 28 August, where they represented Bemin with real credit.
Division Athletics
On Friday 28th August, 28 Bemin students headed to the Victoria University Athletic Track to compete in the Division Athletics Competition. Students represented the school excellently, demonstrating our school values and, in particular, a strong sense of community by supporting one another in their respective events. It was awesome to see our senior students getting right behind our junior students, cheering them on and giving our junior students great encouragement.
There were some incredible performances throughout the day, including Hiku’s impressive showing in the triple jump, Munazza’s sprinting, and Rudra’s performances across a number of events.
We were especially impressed to see Amelia finish 1st, 2nd and 3rd in the shot put. Her sheer intimidation and confidence had the other competitors shaking in their boots and, evidently, fleeing from the competition!
Overall, it was a great day out. A huge thank you to our sports coordinators, Miss Stafford and Miss Meynell, who organised the day and even ran the javelin event.
Volleyball One Day Series
The Bemin Volleyball team’s journey began over two terms ago, with students showing great dedication by attending after-school training every Wednesday and Thursday. The commitment paid off as four Bemin teams competed at the one-day series at Eagle Stadium.
Students arrived at the College at 7:00 am ready for an exciting day of competition. Eagle Stadium hosted 43 teams from 17 secondary schools across Victoria, providing our students with an excellent opportunity to showcase their skills and athletic talent.
Year 10 Boys and Girls
The Year 10 Boys finished second in their pool before defeating North Geelong College to secure a top-three finish out of seven year 10 boys teams. The Year 10 Girls also achieved an outstanding second-place finish, earning a silver medal after defeating North Geelong College and narrowly falling to a strong Northcote College team.
Year 11–12 Mixed Team
The Year 11–12 Mixed team played two thrilling pool matches, drawing sets against Caroline Chisholm and Sirius College. Both matches were closely contested, with sets decided by only a few points. The team finished the day strongly with a convincing three-set victory over Bacchus Marsh Grammar.
Year 8–9 Mixed Team
The standout performance came from the Year 8–9 Mixed team, who won all four pool matches without dropping a set. They progressed to the Grand Final game against Victoria University Secondary College, with both teams entering the match undefeated. Despite a strong fightback in the second set, Bemin fell short against a very competitive opponent.
The team proudly returned with a silver medal, capping off an outstanding day. Their courage, pride, teamwork and professionalism both on and off the court throughout the competition were a credit to their dedication and effort they had shown throughout their training sessions.
