Alumni return to inspire students 

Our Year 12 students recently welcomed two special guest speakers – and SMC alumni – back to the College to discuss post-school pathways. 

Lena Abbas (Class of 2020) spoke about life after school and how completing a Business Traineeship through Work and Training paved the way for her current career in the police force. 

We were also joined by Kylie Petryk (Class of 1990), Apprentice and Employment Manager at Work and Training, who shared valuable insights into the various traineeship and employment opportunities available to school leavers. 

Meanwhile, in Year 9, students recently welcomed representatives from ADF Careers to explore life and career pathways in the Navy, Army and Air Force. Students learnt about the diverse roles available, from trades and technology to disaster relief and healthcare, and gained early insights into the Defence Work Experience Program as they start considering their future pathways. 

Exciting Opportunity: Undergraduate Accountant Cadetship Program

Current Year 12 students who are thinking about embarking on a career as an accountant are invited to apply for WLF's Undergraduate Accountant Cadetship Program. 

The program, which is designed for Year 12 leavers and first-year Bachelor of Business students majoring in accounting, offers a head start on an accounting career by combining part-time university study with paid, practical experience at WLF. 

Key Dates

• Applications open Monday 14 September 2026
• Applications close midnight on Wednesday 23 September 2026
• Interviews will be held during the school holidays, between Monday 5 October and Friday 16 October 2026
• If successful, the applicant's career will commence with WLF in February 2027.
