Good morning everyone and welcome to this edition of our school newsletter.Today I would like to talk to you about a couple of things. First one is our building fund. We are in May, in fact, very close to the end of May and June represents the end of the financial year. so keen to encourage you to consider making a taxdeductible donation to our building fund.
At the beginning of the school year, when all of the school is in the sports hall, students come up to me and ask me and say, "Miss, when are we going to get fans in the sports hall?" Because even though it's a big spacious venue, when you put over 1,700 students and over 120 staff into that space, it still gets hot. So, we would really love to put big fans in the sports hall. That would make a massive difference to the well-being of our students and our staff and all of the big events that we host in our sports hall. So, I know the cost of living is really really challenging at the moment, but if you have a business or your family has any spare cash at the end of the financial year, would like to ramp up tax deductions for your family, please consider contributing to that building fund.
The other space that we're looking at is our bleaches on the oval and we apply for grants and in the past we've applied for a trips grant and that has allowed us to put shade structures over 3/4 of the bleaches. What we're looking for is donations to help us complete that project and finalize the shade structure over the last quarter of that.Once again, we're applying for triple S funding to help fund that. But the condition around receiving that funding is our school is required to make a contribution and it's usually about 50% of that contribution.
Our P&C are amazing and they always help us out by providing us with any profits that they receive from the businesses they run in the school uniform and the tuck shop.
But as a school things are tight as well and so any contributions you can make through the building fund to help us contribute to that bleacher finalization would be greatly appreciated.
In closing, we have a big new exciting event that's coming to the Gap State High School. We're really thrilled and excited to be able to partner with the Brisbane German Language Organization. We're partnering with them to host the annual their annual lantern fest. This is a great opportunity for us because as a school that teaches German and has German immersion programs, we would love to immerse all of our students and families and community into everything that is German.
If you're old enough to remember Expo 88 and the German stand at Expo 88, I have a feeling and a vibe that you might have some opportunities that are similar to that German dancing, German singing and of course, some of you remember the chicken dance. So, put it in your calendars and make sure you visit us on June 7 for our first Lantern Fest. We're hoping the first of many.
Look forward to seeing you at that exciting event. Thanks everyone.

Let’s Build a Better School Together!
Exciting developments are underway at The Gap State High School, and you can help shape our future! We’ve launched The Gap State High School Building Fund, a Tax-Deductible gift recipient fund initiative aimed at enhancing our school’s facilities and we invite you to support our vision.
How Your Donation Could Help: Every dollar raised supports projects that we hope will make a meaningful difference for our students. While we’re working hard to make these improvements a reality, please note that the following are proposed ideas:
Cooler, More Comfortable Spaces: We’re proposing to install new fans in the Sports Hall to help keep our students cool during PE classes, assemblies, and events.
More Usable Sports Areas: We’re considering adding a shade structure and improved lighting to the external basketball courts to enhance their usability in various weather conditions.
A Better Spectator Experience: We’re exploring options to provide additional shade for our bleachers, so parents and students can cheer on our teams in a safer, sun-friendly environment.
- Enhanced Student Safety: We’re evaluating the introduction of swipe card access for bathrooms to foster a more secure and accessible space for everyone.
Your Donation = A Direct Impact Every contribution, big or small, goes directly toward these potential improvements, and donations over $2 are tax-deductible!
