TAFE Queensland Visits The Gap SHS to Guide International Students on Study Pathways

On 15 May, The Gap State High School was pleased to welcome representatives from TAFE Queensland for an informative session tailored to our international students. The presentation provided a valuable overview of the diverse opportunities available through TAFE, one of Queensland’s leading providers of vocational education and training.

During the session, students learned about the wide range of courses offered across industries such as business, hospitality, health, information technology, engineering, and more. The TAFE representatives also walked students through the application process, entry requirements, and important deadlines, ensuring they are well-informed and prepared for their future academic and career pathways in Australia.

Students had the opportunity to ask questions and explore how TAFE pathways can lead to employment, further study at university, or skilled migration. The session was highly engaging and well-received, providing clarity and direction for students planning their next steps after high school.

We thank TAFE Queensland for supporting our international students with this informative and empowering session, and we look forward to future collaborations.

Queensland University of Technology Information Session Empowers International Students

On Monday, 12 May, our international students had the valuable opportunity to attend an informative session led by Erica from the Queensland University of Technology (QUT) International Student Admissions team.

Erica provided a comprehensive overview of the university application process, including important timelines, entry requirements, and supporting documentation. She also explored a wide range of course options and study pathways available at QUT, helping students to better understand how to align their interests and goals with future tertiary study opportunities.

The session highlighted key support services offered by QUT, including academic support, accommodation assistance, and programs designed specifically to help international students transition successfully to university life in Australia.

We thank Erica and QUT for taking the time to support our students in making informed decisions about their future education pathways.

Education Perfect PD Enhances Teaching Strategies

On 20 May, Ryan from Education Perfect (EP) visited our school to deliver a professional development session for the Languages team.

The session explored a range of EP features, including setting and analysing quizzes and assessments, using data to personalise learning, and providing AI-powered feedback to students. Ryan also introduced the new Learning Snapshots tool, which helps track student progress across curriculum areas—currently live for Years 7–10 Maths, with more subjects coming soon.

In addition to teaching tools, Ryan highlighted upcoming EP competitions and shared strategies to boost student participation and motivation. He also mentioned that prize packs for top-performing schools are on their way and offered to attend our Week 8 assembly to present certificates.

We thank Ryan for an engaging and informative session and look forward to applying these tools to enrich our students’ learning experience in Languages.

Welcoming Our SCHULWÄRTS! Placement Teacher – Ms. Mona Dobesch

The Gap State High School is delighted to announce that we will be hosting Ms. Mona Dobesch as a placement teacher through the prestigious SCHULWÄRTS! program, an initiative supported by the Goethe-Institut.

Ms. Dobesch will be joining us for a period of 8 to 16 weeks, during which she will work closely with our German and German Immersion classes. Her role will include observing classes, co-teaching alongside our language staff, and independently leading lessons where appropriate. We are particularly excited about the opportunity for our students to gain first-hand insights into modern German culture, as shared by Ms. Dobesch.

This exciting opportunity was initiated by Dr. Mertens-Walker, who will also serve as Ms. Dobesch’s mentor during her placement. Dr. Mertens-Walker will assist in organising her schedule and provide ongoing feedback and professional guidance throughout the program.

In addition to her work in the classroom, Ms. Dobesch may also contribute to our extra-curricular programs, potentially in areas such as theatre, dance, or sport—further enriching the school’s vibrant cultural life.

We look forward to the valuable perspectives and experiences Ms. Dobesch will bring, and to the positive impact her presence will have on both our students and staff.
