Last week, a group of Year 10 and 11 students embarked on the intimidating endeavour of cycling 161km: the entire Brisbane Valley Rail Trail. It was wonderful watching the students’ progress: from struggling to make 24km on Day 1, to cruising through 35km by lunchtime on Day 5. They shivered their way through crisp frosty mornings, cheered through steep scary culverts and bonded over the many kilometres of sore bottoms (& occasional bakery treats).
The Duke of Edinburgh is a lot about overcoming challenges and working together to succeed at a goal. These students certainly did that. They helped those that struggled, reflected on how they could improve and pushed themselves to lead the group, so much so that the teachers just followed along behind by the end! We hope they are exceptionally proud of themselves (they should be!)
