Hosted by The Gap SHS P&C Association, this event is the perfect way to enjoy a delicious breakfast with your family and hear from one of Australia’s football legends, John Kosmina.

 

About our Guest Speaker:

 

John Kosmina, a former Socceroos captain and football icon, will be our guest speaker.

 

With an illustrious career that includes captaining the Socceroos during two World Cups and the 1988 Olympics, John has countless stories to share. 

 

 

His insights into leadership, determination, and the world of football will inspire and engage our school. You won’t want to miss this rare opportunity to hear from such a distinguished guest!

Now Open – Second Round Applications for the Honours: German Immersion Program

Are you looking to challenge and extend your child academically while opening doors to global opportunities?

 

We’re excited to announce that second round applications are now open for our Honours: German Immersion Program for Year 7, 2026.

 

This Program of Academic Excellence is designed for high-achieving students with strong initiative and a passion for learning. The program offers a unique opportunity to excel in core subjects while developing fluency in the German language,  no prior experience required.

 

Students study subjects such as Maths, Science, Humanities and Health in German, using a Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL) approach. This encourages deep academic thinking, cross-cultural understanding and bilingual communication.

Program Benefits:

  • Achieve advanced German language proficiency
  • Strengthen English literacy and critical thinking skills
  • Experience rich cultural learning and exchange opportunities
  • Participate in local and global language competitions
  • Complete Senior German by the end of Year 11, with an option for German Extension in Year 12

2026 Ski Trip: Expressions of Interest Now Open

We are excited to announce that The Gap State High School's 2026 Ski Trip will take students to the breathtaking snowfields of New Zealand.

 

Expressions of interest are now open for current Year 9, 10 and 11 students. This enriching experience offers students the opportunity to develop resilience, independence and teamwork while enjoying the stunning landscapes and culture of New Zealand.

 

 

Trip highlights include:

  • Five days of skiing or snowboarding across Cardrona, The Remarkables and Coronet Peak, with daily lessons, lift passes, and equipment hire (including helmets)
  • Seven nights accommodation (four in Wanaka, three in Queenstown)
  • All coach travel and return flights from Brisbane to Queenstown
  • Daily hot breakfasts and dinners at local restaurants
  • Down day activities in Queenstown
  • Travel insurance included

Estimated cost: $4,600

Capacity: Maximum of 40 students

Students who wish to participate should visit Mr Maclean in the Sports Hall staffroom to register their interest.

PoPArts Community Workshop: Discover the World of Cyanotype

We are excited to welcome renowned photo-media artist Dr Renata Buziak to The Gap State High School for a unique creative experience as part of our PoPArts Community Partnership Program.

 

Join us for a hands-on workshop exploring the fascinating art of cyanotype printing, a historical photographic process using sunlight, plants, and found objects to produce striking blue-toned images. Suitable for both beginners and experienced creatives, this workshop will guide participants through each step, from material preparation to developing and fixing prints on paper and fabric.

 

All materials will be provided, and you’re welcome to bring small personal items or plant cuttings to personalise your work. Each participant will take home a collection of original artworks and the skills to continue exploring this process at home. Morning tea is included.

We are pleased to announce that in 2026, The Gap SHS will be offering a Ski Trip to New Zealand.This opportunity is open to current Year 9, 10 and 11 students, with a maximum of 40 places available.

Destination: Queenstown, New ZealandTravel Dates: Between 8–20 July 2026 (exact dates to be confirmed)Expected Cost: $4,600

Trip inclusions:

  • Return airfares from Brisbane to Queenstown with Qantas or Virgin
  • Seven nights accommodation (four nights in Wanaka, three nights in Queenstown)
  • Daily hot breakfasts and dinners
  • Five full days of skiing or snowboarding (Cardrona – 3 days, The Remarkables – 1 day, Coronet Peak – 1 day)
  • Daily lessons, lift passes and full equipment hire (including helmet)

2025 Launch PULSE Conference – A Unique STEAM Experience for Students in Years 5 to 10

This student-led conference is designed to engage curious minds through hands-on, real-world experiences across science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics (STEAM). It’s a day filled with innovation, collaboration, and inspiration for students with a passion for discovery and creativity.

Host an International Student: Make a Difference in Their Life and Yours

At The Gap State High School, we are currently seeking welcoming families to join our International Homestay Program and host students from countries such as China, South Korea, Brazil, and Thailand. This is a fantastic opportunity to engage in cultural exchange, support a young person’s educational journey, and make lasting connections.

 

By hosting an international student, you will have the opportunity to share your culture, help them settle into life in Australia, and be part of their exciting school experience. Hosting is not only rewarding for the student but also for you and your family, as you gain insight into another culture and form a meaningful relationship that lasts far beyond their stay.

 

We are looking for families who offer warmth, care, and a safe environment, where the focus is on supporting students as they adapt to life in Australia.

Key Details:

  • Weekly Allowance: $369 (to assist with hosting costs)
  • Duration: 1 month to 3 years
  • Age Range: 14-17 years
  • Countries of Origin: China, South Korea, Brazil, Thailand

Support for 2026 School Camp Costs – Saver Plus Program

The Gap State High School is pleased to share a valuable opportunity for families through Saver Plus, a government-funded matched savings and financial education program delivered by The Smith Family.

As many families begin planning for next year’s schooling or prepare to transition into new stages of education, Saver Plus is here to help manage the associated costs. The program supports eligible families with school-related expenses through matched savings and free financial education workshops.

 

What is Saver Plus?

Saver Plus helps participants build lasting savings habits while providing matched savings (up to $500) for education-related expenses.

Eligible items include:

  • School uniforms and shoes
  • Stationery and supplies
  • Sports equipment and excursions
  • Technology (laptops, tablets, etc.)

Who Can Apply?

You may be eligible if you:

  • Are 18 years or older
  • Have a Health Care or Pensioner Concession Card
  • Have a child in school or are studying yourself
  • Have regular income from paid work or government payments
  • Are willing to complete free financial education workshops
