Principals Report
Mr Andrew Self
As I said in my assembly speech about the winter solstice, while this time of year brings the longest nights and shortest days, it also marks a turning point. For thousands of years, people have celebrated the solstice not because of the darkness, but because it signals that the light is returning.
As we reach the end of Term 2, I have been reflecting on the many ways our students and staff have brought more brightness to our school community.
One of the most exciting highlights has been our move into the new STEAM Centre. Seeing students learning in these outstanding new spaces has been fantastic. The centre represents the future of John Fawkner and it has already become a modern and vibrant place of learning which the students have enjoyed and treated with great care.
Our students have also enjoyed success beyond the classroom. Both our Senior and Year 8 Badminton teams progressed to the regional finals, an outstanding achievement that reflects their dedication and teamwork. Our Youth Parliament students also had the opportunity to visit Parliament House, gaining valuable insight into how our democracy works and developing their skills as future leaders.
For our senior students, the term concluded with examinations. I would like to congratulate all students on the effort and perseverance they demonstrated throughout the exam period. The students were very committed and showed their ability to prepare and do their very best.
I would like to thank our staff for their dedication and our families for their ongoing support throughout the term.
I wish all students, staff and families a safe and restful holiday break. As the days slowly begin to grow longer once again, I look forward to the opportunities and achievements that await us in Term 3.
A reminder that the first day back is the Tuesday, as the first official school day is a curriculum day.
