Year 9 Urban Art Tour

Ms Liberty Warren

On Friday May 29 the year 9 cohort embarked on the first of many exciting trips into the city on an urban art tour. Students learned how to navigate the lesser known and smaller lane ways of the CBD whilst also gaining a greater understanding of controversial forms of public art and city culture.

Mr Stanecki taught students how to find various hidden murals and renowned artists works and engaged students in meaningful discussions and activities, including a go-pro video log, that connected with artistic appreciation for these installations. Students then had the opportunity for hands-on learning by installing their own street art, with council permission, in Hosier Lane! Students worked in Inquiry with Ms Thasnim on a meaningful slogan (pictured below) and all took part in this unique experience of doing street art with stencils they created.

Miss Warren and Miss Panozzo were especially delighted with how all students engaged throughout the day from navigating as a group, completing their assigned work, participating in art viewing and creation, and generally conducting themselves in a way that represents John Fawkner with pride.

Please seek out our school logo in the laneway if you can! We are very proud of their work and look forward to other city experiences to come.
