Year 10 Food & Nutrition Excursion

Ms Sara GG

As part of their Food around the world unit, our Year 10 Food & Nutrition students recently enjoyed an exciting excursion to Queen Victoria Market and Il Mercato Centrale Melbourne, where they explored the rich multicultural food scene that makes Melbourne so unique.

For many students, this was their first visit to Queen Victoria Market, providing an opportunity to experience the incredible variety of foods and cultures represented throughout the market. Students enthusiastically sampled a range of international foods, including Dutch pancakes, Turkish börek, South Korean tornado potatoes, and classic Australian pies. It was fantastic to see students stepping outside their comfort zones and trying new flavours from around the world.

The second stop at Il Mercato Centrale Melbourne was equally memorable. Students explored authentic Italian food stalls, ingredients and culinary traditions. One highlight of the day was undoubtedly the pizza, which students could not stop talking about long after

 lunch had finished!

The excursion was a fantastic success, with students demonstrating curiosity, enthusiasm, and a willingness to engage with new food experiences. It was a wonderful day of learning, exploration, and, of course, great food!
