Junior School
Term one is well and truly underway. It has been a very busy start to the year, and everyone has certainly hit the ground running. Our junior students began the year with their return to school program. Year 8 students reflecting on their progress and setting goals for 2025, and the year 7 students learning about the culture of the college and beginning to shape their place and identity within it.
Term one is a very short term but that does not mean that there is any less happing with the college program now up in full swing. This term we have a number of exciting events and goings on. With the year 7 meet the teacher evening, interschool sports, Year 7 camp, school photos, NAPLAN, Discovery Evening, and parent teacher conferences, and much more.
Year 7 photos will be occurred on Friday February 13th. School photos will also be used to generate students ID cards. It is important that all students keep their ID cards in a safe place as these are used to access the junior school toilets, as well as access school library borrowing for 2026. Information about purchasing of year 7 photos will be made available to parents shortly via compass, pleas keep an eye out for details.
On Wednesday the 18th of February the school will be hosted the Year 7 Meet The Teacher Evening. The event ran from 5pm to 7pm at Lalor Secondary College at the innovation centre. There was a BBQ dinner, live music performances from our students, and activities. Meet The Teacher Evening is a fantastic opportunity for our new students and families to meet their teachers in a more relaxed and informal setting. It is also a great opportunity to as any of those curious questions you may have about Lalor Secondary or high school in general. It was wonderful to see the families that attended and shared in the event, we look forwards to having you continue to engage with the college in the future.
A reminder that the year 7 camp will be running from Wednesday February 25th to Friday February 27th. The camp is an incredible experience for our students who have the opportunity to participate in things that may not have the chance to otherwise, such as rock climbing, abseiling and billy cart building. Student will be able to build and create friendships that may last the rest of their lives. I am looking forward to visiting the camp and seeing/hearing about what they have been getting up to. Students not attending camp are expected to attend the college as a regular and will follow an alternative timetable.
NAPLAN will be running at the college for year 7 and year 9 students starting Wednesday March 11th. Students will be completing four assessments spread out over the following four days. Students that are absent on any given day will be required to sit a catch-up session. Each assessment should take no longer than two hours to complete with students attending regular classes outside of the NAPLAN assessment. All NAPLAN assessments will be scheduled on students compass timetables. Students are required to have a fully charged laptop for their NAPLAN assessments. All NAPLAN assessments will take place in the Hall. More details will be made available closer to the assessment date.
Parent teacher conferences are rapidly approaching so please make a note in your calendars. Conferences will be occurring on school site on March 24th and run from 12pm – 7pm. Bookings will be able to be made through compass and will be available to families closer to the date of the conferences. Please keep an eye on compass for details.
