Start of the Year
The school has been implementing an enormous amount of work across Years 7 to 12 to assist students with starting the school year. The transition to a new year level, new teachers, new lockers, new areas and new classes can be daunting and challenging for some.
The Year 7 Start Up program implemented over 2 days provided our Year 7 students with the knowledge to connect to our processes and understand what it means to be part of our community. This has meant the students have settled very well and we are pleased with the way they becoming valued members of our community.
The Year 8 to 12 students have had a number of assemblies outlining the schools’ expectations and again asking them to be involved in the school program beyond the classroom. We have high expectations for all students and have assisted them to settle with clearly communicated entry routines that mean they enter the classroom ready to learn. We ask our teachers to set routines in the classroom that make learning predictable and accessible to everyone in the classroom.
This has been further assisted with all students taught the LSC Instructional Model this term. All students have been taught the phases of a lesson so they can better understand and locate themselves within the lesson. This allow all students to better understand what they are meant to be doing during that phase. The LSC Instructional Model is shown below:

We have also discussed the important role students play in making our school safe. An important part of the messaging that was presented is also important for parents and careers. We are a Child Safe environment with policies to ensure the safety of everyone on site. These processes are reviewed regulary and updated on our schools website. Meet the teacher
We welcomed many new families into our community at the Year 7 Meet the Teacher evening held on Wednesday the 18th of February. This event provided the opportunity for parents and careers to meet their child’s new teachers for an informal discussion about the school year. There was a wonderful turn out creating a warm feeling of support and celebration.
We look forward to seeing those families back for a more formal discussion around the semester 1 learning plans for their children at the Learning Conferences that will be held on Wednesday the 25th of March. More details to follow early next week
