Park It - Walk to school

Dear School Families,

We are reaching out to you to notify you about a special active travel initiative, called PARK IT, taking place in our neighbourhood, for the Roxburgh Park Primary School Community in term 4 2024.

Roxburgh Park Primary School, Hume City Council and Outdoors Victoria, alongside a number of key partners, are working together to trial a new approach that aims:

  1. To encourage more car-dependent families to support their children to walk a portion of their journey to/from school and;
  2. To reduce traffic congestion before and after school times within the immediate neighbourhood.

PARK IT involves developing child friendly pathways, by using temporary vinyl stickers on footpaths, from local parks to schools.   The goal is to encourage car dependent families to drop-off and/or pick-up children from locations up to 1km away from the school gate.

In term 4 2024, we will trial a new drop-off point at Lakeside Drive Playground and place playful stickers (that our children have designed) on our defined footpaths, to encourage families to use the 550m pathway – SEE MAP >>>

To help introduce our school families to the new pathway, our teachers will be attending Lakeside Drive Playground on the following mornings:

  • Tuesday 12 November from 8am onwards
  • Tuesday 19 November from 8am onwards
  • Tuesday 26 November from 8am onwards
  • Tuesday 3 December from 8am onwards

Please note that we will be departing for School (as a group) at 8.40am on our FOUR Tuesday mornings, if you would like your child/ren to participate, please ensure they arrive at Lakeside Drive Playground prior to 8.40am.

IMPORTANT – outside of these days and times, it is the responsibility of parents/carers to ensure children are safe when travelling to/from school, and using this pathway.

Please see below fact sheet with more information about PARK IT with TIPS for getting involved.

There are TWO street crossing points that students and their families will be using at Isparta Mews (point 5 on the map) and at Yozgat Avenue (point 6 on the map).

We kindly ask that everyone looks out for our children and broader community members, particularly when driving through these points, so we can look after everyone’s safety and support a more active and healthy community.

PARK IT is funded by the Victorian Government, under the Kids Active Travel Program.

If you have any questions or feedback on this initiative, please let us know.
