Year 6 Report

Term 4, 2024

 

As we enter the final term of primary school, excitement is in the air! This term is packed with thrilling events that will create lasting memories for our students. From our much-anticipated school camp to the competitive Volleyball Districts and Rugby Gala Day, there's no shortage of fun. We’ll also enjoy a day of adventure at Fun Fields before ending the term with our graduation ceremony.

Reading

In Reading this term, Grade 6 students will dive into a variety of texts. They will learn to analyse and critique different literary texts, exploring themes, characters, and authorial intent. Students will also make connections to the texts, enhancing their understanding and engagement. Through guided questioning, they will practice synthesising information from multiple sources, while developing the ability to infer deeper meanings and insights.

 

Writing

This term in Writing, Grade 6 students will embark on an exciting project by creating their very own memory books. A memory book is a personalised collection of stories, reflections, and mementos that captures the experiences and milestones of their primary school years. Throughout the term, students will complete various chapters, including favorite memories, achievements, and lessons learned, allowing them to express their creativity and individuality. This meaningful project will serve as a cherished keepsake, as they prepare to transition to High School.

 

Maths

In Maths this term, Grade 6 students will strengthen their skills in adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing both fractions and decimals. They will also explore real-world applications of money, engaging in problem-solving scenarios. Additionally, students will delve into geometric concepts, studying shapes and transformations, while continuing to explore algebraic expressions. 

 

Inquiry

In Inquiry this term, Grade 6 students will embark on an exciting project to create travel diaries, mapping out hypothetical trips across North America and Europe. They will investigate various aspects of travel, including budgeting for their journeys, exploring transport systems, and understanding the importance of passports. Additionally, students will learn about natural disasters that can impact travel and how to prepare for them. Through this immersive experience, they will develop practical skills in planning and critical thinking.
