Term 2, Week 10
It’s been a busy Term 2 in Year 1 and 2!
We have been honing our reading skills through fiction and non fiction texts this term that support our Inquiry unit ‘How do I best look after myself?”. We have explored making inferences, improving our vocabulary, practised reading fluency and continued our knowledge of phonics to help us decode words. In spelling, we have been looking at prefixes and suffixes and how they can be added to a base word.
In writing, we have been writing narratives, making sure we have an exciting beginning, a clear problem and a plausible solution to end the story. We have also been exploring persuasive writing and using convincing language to make our reasons even stronger. Keep an eye out for this persuasive language around the home as your children convince you of different things! Maybe just a few more minutes of TV time or a special treat for dessert…
In maths, we have displayed data we have collected in graphs, measured the length and capacity of objects and worked on telling the time with analogue and digital clocks. We will end the term consolidating our skip counting skills and addition and subtraction fact knowledge to make this more automatic to help us with more complex equations and worded problems.
Finally, we have enjoyed learning about all the different ways we can best look after ourselves. We have learnt about the importance of staying safe online, road safety, a good night’s sleep, our mental health and healthy eating. To finish the term off we have been swimming where we have improved our swimming skills and techniques. Feel free to ask your children all about how they can stay safe and healthy to look after themselves.
Thank you for your continued support throughout the term. We look forward to continuing our journey in Term 3.
