Term overview for Physical Education
In our 50 minute weekly physical education sessions this term our F-2 students have been working on target games throwing, catching and teamwork skills in our "Throw it. Catch it." unit. For the last four weeks our F-2 students have been practising their basketball skills, inluding teamwork, fair play and the fundamental skills of dribbling, passing and shooting. Our grade 3 - 6 students have been working hard to practise, develop and refine their techniques in a range of athletics events for our upcoming term 3 BPS House Athletics in our "Track and Field" unit.
Our Grade 5 and 6 staff, students and volunteers represented us in the district summer sport round robin in AFL 9's, T-ball, Netball and Soccer. all our teams played terrifically and represented BPS with excellent teamwork and fairness.

On what's normally a horse racing track, our five BPS runners did an outstanding effort to compete and race at our Eastern Region cross country championships. With a huge field of 80 plus runners in each age and gender race, our runners performed so well and we are so proud of each one of them, many with new PB's or racing the course for the first time.

A huge congratulations to Charlie and her family for Charlie's outsanding run in the 12/13 femal 3km race. Charlie placed an incredible 5th in a tough field and has qualified for the Victorian State Cross Country Championships on Thursday 16th July at Yarra Glen! Charlie has made BPS history with her result, becoming the first ever BPS female cross country athlete to qualify for the Victorian State Championships!
Congratulations to our Grade 6 student, Blue Gum Co-House Captain and athlete Charlie, who has become BPS' first ever female Victorian State Cross Country representative. This is an incredible achievement for both Charlie and Mum, Jen, Dad, Warick and younger brother, Thomas, that will forever be part of our school's sporting history.
Charlie has shown what can be achieved through determination, hard work and a positive attitude. Whether she is training, competing or cheering on her teammates, she always gives her best and inspires those around her to do the same.
As our Blue Gum Co-House Captain, Charlie leads by example every day at school. Charlie's not just an exceptional athlete but also a kind and supportive friend who is always willing to encourage others and celebrate their successes. Her great sense of humour brings smiles to those around her, making her a valued leader and teammate at BPS.
Charlie's journey to the State Championships is a testament to her commitment, resilience and love of running. She has proudly represented BPS at every level, from house, district, division region and now state and our entire school community is incredibly proud of everything she has achieved.
Congratulations, Charlie! You have inspired our whole community to dream big, work hard and believe in themselves. We wish you and your family all the very best as you represent BPS at the Victorian State Cross Country Championships on Thursday 16th July at Yarra Glen! We are so proud of you and the amazing person and athlete that you are!
Spotlight on Charlie; a Q&A with our state cross country representative!
With this history-making achievement I wanted to share a bit more about the person behind "Charlie the runner and athlete" so enjoy Charlie's responses to the following questions.
Q. When did you first start enjoying running Charlie?
Charlie - When I joined the running club at BPS in year 2 and cross country in year 3.
Q. What has been something that you've enjoyed or improved in over your journey this year from house cross country to district, division, regionals and now state?
Charlie - I feel I have improved on keeping a steady pace during my long runs. I have enjoyed knowing that my regional time this year was 2mins and 28secs faster than my regional race last year.
Q. What do you normally eat for breakfast before your cross country races?
Charlie - Peanut butter toast. I have some fruit and crackers for morning tea if I have a race later in the day
Q. What do you love about sport in general?
Charlie - I love being fit (trying harder and improving), making new friends, being a part of a team and certainly having fun
Q. What is something that you have enjoyed so far about being a BPS House Captain this year?
Charlie - I love when people can see me as a leader and helping organising things. I want people to look up to me. I love seeing Blue Gum being successful.
Q. If you could represent Australia at the Olympics for any sport or event, what would it be and why?
Charlie - The 800m because it is a fast event so you can get it done and over with but I would also like high jump because while you wait you can talk to the other contestants and of course to jump high.
Q. Do you have a favourite quote or saying that inspires you?
Charlie - Never give up! Have Fun! You’ve got this!
Thank you Charlie for sharing some insights about who you are as a person, BPS leader and athlete. On behalf of our BPS staff, students and community, we want to wish you all the best for your state championships run and experience. Collectively, we are as SO proud of you!

This term marked an exciting milestone for BPS as we officially unveiled our brand new House names: Waratah (red), Blue Gum (blue), Wattle (yellow) and Eucalypt (green).
The new names are the result of a lengthy student voice and choice process, with students playing a central role in exploring ideas, narrowing down categories and ultimately voting alongside staff and our wider school community. The chosen names celebrate the unique beauty and resilience of our local indigenous native flora while reflecting our school's spirit of teamwork, belonging and unity.
We can't wait to see our students wearing their House colours with pride and building new traditions as they compete, collaborate and cheer each other on throughout the year. Congratulations to everyone who contributed to this exciting journey and helped shape the next chapter of BPS House spirit!
Thank you to the support of the following staff who have been an integral part of this process with me: Yi Zhang, Molly Lawlor, Danae Sage, Marianne Fusillo, Simone Wood, Scott Minetti.

Congratulations to all our BPS Netball Teams who have trained and represented BPS over this term in their respective Monday and Saturday competitions. Thank you to all our volunteer coaches, players and families for your support and encouragement of our players and their development.
