Term 2, Week 10

Dear Foundation Families,

Congratulations to all of our Foundies and their families on a wonderful and successful Term 2! We have been incredibly proud of the growth, enthusiasm and resilience shown by our students throughout the term. From the very first week, students settled back into school routines with confidence and have embraced every learning opportunity with curiosity and determination.

Each morning began with our phonics program before moving into reading, writing, spelling, maths and inquiry learning. Throughout the term, students have worked hard to develop their literacy skills and have made fantastic progress. In Writing, students explored recounts and practised writing about their weekend experiences and have started to learn how to publish their writing . Through phonics, spelling and Writer’s Workshop lessons, students continued to strengthen their ability to connect sounds to letters and apply this knowledge in their writing. It has been wonderful to see students becoming increasingly confident when sounding out words and independently recording their ideas.

In Spelling, students practised words using a variety of sound, sight and kinaesthetic strategies, including hands-on activities with playdough and sensory materials. Throughout the term, students consolidated their understanding of letters and sounds and began applying this knowledge more confidently in both reading and writing.

In Reading, students participated in daily lessons centred around mentor texts, exploring comprehension strategies such as predicting, retelling, visualising and making connections. Independent reading and small group instruction provided opportunities for students to strengthen their decoding, fluency and comprehension skills. We would like to sincerely thank families for supporting reading at home throughout the term. Your commitment to regular reading practice has played an important role in your child’s progress.

In Maths, students began each session with engaging fluency activities designed to build confidence and flexibility with numbers. Throughout the term, students explored addition, partitioning collections, subitising and measurement concepts including mass, capacity and length. Through a range of hands-on learning experiences, students developed their understanding of number concepts, counting and problem-solving skills.

Students thoroughly enjoyed participating in PMP sessions throughout the term. These movement-based activities helped develop motor skills, coordination, spatial awareness and confidence while providing plenty of opportunities for fun and teamwork. We would like to extend a huge thank you to our parent volunteers. Your support made it possible for us to continue running this valuable program, and we are incredibly grateful for your time and assistance.

As we finish the term, with swimming and parent teacher interviews we have loved chatting to you about your child's progress.

We hope you all enjoy a safe, restful and well-deserved break, and we look forward to welcoming everyone back for another exciting term of learning.

With gratitude and kindness,

Vicky, Wendy, Simone and Alannah
