Music, Choir & Upcoming Performances

What an incredibly productive term it has been. I don't know about you, but I am well and truly ready for a holiday!
Below is a snapshot of learning that has taken place in the Music Room this term.

Next term on Friday 28th August, all Grades 3 and 4 students will be attending an Arts Excursion to the National Gallery of Victoria (NGV) and the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra (MSO).
The MSO have invited students to submit their drawings of the animals (see picture) which may be selected to be shown at the performance.
Thank you to the students below who submitted their drawings of one (or more) of the following animals as depicted in Carnival of the Animals:

- The Elephant
- Kangaroos
- Aquarium (Fish)
- Aviary (Birds)
- Cuckoo
- The Swan
- Fossils
What a wonderful effort by our Grades 3 and 4 students!
Grades 5 and 6
Choir
We have achieved a lot this term in Choir! We have learnt the value of rehearsing songs over and over (and then over again!) so we can sing tunefully present to an audience. But more importantly, we did it while having fun! Thank you, Choristers and Mr Merlino!
Mr Merlino and Mr Ringin will be conducting Choir rehearsals during weeks 1-5 next term while I am on leave. I will upload our new songs in the Choir Showbie folder before term 3 starts. Students will receive hard copies of the song lyrics and sheet music at Choir rehearsals to take home and practise. I'm already looking forward to hearing the Choir sing our new songs!
Term 3 Whole School Performance
Keep your eyes peeled for more information regarding Blackburn Primary School's involvement in BUSKING FOR CHANGE next term!
SAVE THE DATE! - Friday 11th September
Advance notice - There will be a whole school performance at assembly on Friday 11th September (week 9, term 3). We hope you can join us for what will be a special event!
The Arts in Our Community
There are so many wonderful events accessible to us in our community, but sometimes we don't know about them unless we (or someone we know) are involved in them!
Below is a range of musical events suitable for families with children of various ages. Attending orchestral concerts, theatre or dance productions with family and friends is a really special experience. I used to take my own kids to events like these starting from a very young age. We still talk about the time we played instruments with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra and when we saw the MSO playing the score of Harry Potter while we watched the movie on a gigantic screen. Precious memories in the Shacklock household!
These community events are also on display in the Gym foyer.
Note that ticket availability may have differed since I put up the display!
Also note that students in Grades 3 and 4 will be attending the MSO performance of 'Carnival of the Animals' on Friday 28th August.
The Sign of the Seahorse
Author of 'The Sign of the Seahorse' Graeme Base will be attending this performance - an extra special treat for the audience!
Wishing you all a wonderful holiday!
Yours in harmony,
Lisa Shacklock
