NAIDOC Week Fundraiser: ILF
As part of our NAIDOC Week celebrations, the fundraising BBQ and casual clothes day was a great succes, raising $1,381 to support the Indigenous Literacy Foundation (ILF).
We were delighted to receive a heartfelt thank you from the ILF, who shared that this donation will enable 128 books to be gifted to children and families in remote Communities through their Book Supply Program.
What makes this program particularly special is that the books are chosen by Communities, for Communities, ensuring they reflect the cultures, languages and identities of the children who read them. The program helps ensure that every child has access to books in which they can see themselves and their experiences represented.
The impact of the program is perhaps best captured in the words of Zoe Smith from the Central Australian Aboriginal Congress in Mparntwe (Alice Springs):
“It is honestly the BEST program in Australia for Indigenous literacy. Having access to such a variety of books, but also being able to provide children and family with books for home is HUGE for our Community.”
Thank you to everyone who supported the fundraiser. Your generosity is helping to create meaningful opportunities for children and families in remote communities and contributing to a future where every child has access to culturally relevant books and stories.
Dress for Success
Over the past four weeks, we have had the privilege of organising a clothing drive alongside Mrs Ford to support the charity Dress for Success. We are incredibly excited to share that the drive was a huge success!
With a mountain of clothes building up in Mrs Ford's office we spent some time sorting through everything and were thrilled to find a variety of high-quality clothing, with many items being brand new and still having their tags attached.
In total we counted 230 clothing items (including pants, skirts, dresses and tops), as well as 25 pairs of shoes, 3 handbags, 4 scarves, and 6 suits. We would also like to give a very special thank you to the family who generously donated a box containing an incredible 51 clothing items. Your generosity was truly appreciated!
This is something we are incredibly proud of and believe is worth celebrating within the Norwood community. It is amazing to see how much we can achieve when we all come together to support such a meaningful cause. A huge thank you to everyone who donated, supported and contributed to our clothing drive. We truly could not have done this without you!
