Book Week

This year’s Book Week celebrations started a little early with students from the Library Volunteer program and the Creative Writing Group visited by award winning author Melanie La’Brooy on Friday 21 August. During the incursion, Melanie created an interactive presentation which included tips and tricks for writing, the building blocks for creating a story and a really great opportunity for them to ask questions and dig into the world of writing and publishing. She was even available to sign her book and chat some more to students at the end. It was a really great day and we’re grateful to Melanie for giving up her time and sharing so enthusiastically with the students.

Book Week officially runs from Saturday 22nd August to Friday 28th August with this year’s theme being ‘Symphony of Stories’. To celebrate there have been some extra activities on offer this week in the library including a Choose-Your-Own-Adventure story to vote on, a Book Week challenge to unravel and later in the week, the announcement of this year’s winners of the House Reading Challenge. The official winners will be announced in the next newsletter as well as on Compass and Instagram.

Books and Brownies

It was a special edition of Books and Brownies on Wednesday this week to coincide with Book Week. A dozen students gathered in The Cube at lunchtime to celebrate all things books with hot chocolates and brownies. Students had the opportunity to share their favourite books from childhood, compete in a Book Week Trivia challenge and finish the day with the opportunity to browse and borrow the new books. The final session will be on Wednesday 16th September and the sign-up sheet will be available the week before.

Chess Club Rebooted

Chess Club has had a break for the last couple of weeks but it’s back from next week with a new time and a new program. Mr Agache and Mr Tran have taken over running the club and will be offering students the opportunity to play chess against other students (and themselves). They also hope to teach some new skills and run a tournament or two. If you’re interested come along next Wednesday 2nd September at lunchtime in The Cube ready to play.
