In the Classroom...

Years 3/4 students have been finishing their "Fairy Tales on Trial" unit. Each student was assigned a character from a fairytale, and they went to "court" representing the character and the character's perspective. In this task, students were invited to step into the shoes of their character and think about how their character would think, speak and act. We had a lot of fun simulating what a court room looks like - students debated and voted for which character they believed were in the wrong!

Year 5/6 students used rhythm sticks to play to the tune of "William Tell" overture. We looked at the history of "William Tell", and used our knowledge of musical beats to complete the task.

Foundation to 2 students have started learning the ukulele, with focus on holding the ukulele with correct posture, and learning how to play the C chord. Students did an excellent job accompaying the song "Mary Had a Little Lamb" with the C chord on the ukulele!

The Melbourne youth orchestra will be hosting a summer school in January 2025. If your child learns an instrument, the summer school is a great way for your child to not only develop their techniques, but also expand their repertoire, make like-minded friends and to gain experience practicing and performing in an orchestral setting.

Dates: 6-11 January, 2025

Where: University of Melbourne Southbank Campus, ABC Iwaki Auditorium, Hamer Hall – Arts Centre Melbourne
