ART / CRAFT

We have had the best time creating imaginative and inventive fashion in the art room throughout term one and into term two. The whole school is focusing on fashion as a creative art form. Students became fashion designers and used old clothing to upcycle into new and creative styles. Students used art techniques such as sewing, painting, cutting, patching, tie dying and drawing on fabrics. Thank you for supporting our art program and sending students to school with unwanted clothing items.
We ended the fashion unit by having a fashion parade where students presented their fashion to the class. We invited their class teacher, and we finished the fashion parade with an after-event dance party! It was so much fun.
In STEM students in grades 3 to 6 are working with Josh to create a website for their fashion clothing. They are designing a logo and a website. Later in the year they will add accessories to their brand such as the clay shoes they are making.
The above photos give you a glimpse of what the kids have been creating.
Some comments from students…
5/6B
Sid and Frank:
I loved doing the fashion parade with my friend Frank. We both loved dancing to the music and I had Frank piggy back on my back down the cat walk.
Anouk and Margo:
I loved being a fashion designer with Margo. It was fun watching the models parade what they wore. Margo said she enjoyed being the model walking the catwalk to the music. It was really good creating a brand that was like a real designer and then showing off your designs in the catwalk. Our fashion brand is called RZN.
Trinette:
Loved watching the catwalk as some kids were really confident.
Milo:
I loved Marley’s green beanie on the catwalk. It was fun working with Felix on our fashion designs together.
3/4B
Eve:
I loved being a fashion designer as it was not boring as you got to use your imagination and create anything you wanted to do. Some kids did some really crazy designs and put really heavy things on their tops but they still wore them on the fashion parade. I would love to be a fashion designer like Vivienne Westwood and I want people to wear my clothes everyday, not just on the catwalk.
Bonnie and Hannah:
Bonnie liked making crazy fashion that was still wearable. Hannah said she loved that there were no rules about what we could do. We stuck buttons and earrings on our tops. We both loved doing the fashion parade together. It was so much fun.
Karmai:
I liked adding pompoms and cards to my tshirt. Using the hot glue gun was fun.
Dylan: I was a designer and a model. I loved adding crazy things to my shirt like an old watch and my dads tape measure. I walked with Raph and Jack and it was fun to dance together.
We are now working on our clay unit creating fashion shoes. All students are using the slab and coil technique to create their shoes. They are already starting to look so realistic that the kids want to actually wear them!!
